Then they traveled to the Carolina Pea- nut Mill in -Hampstead to see how thepeariuts were processed. Other -field trips included: skat- ing' at Sportsworld, touring the Fire and Sheriff's Departments, Moore'-s Creek Battleground, and the New Hanover County Airport. Hampstead, who taught the kids good dental hygiene, was an un- usual visitor. On Halloween, all the children in grades K-3 paraded around the gym in their costumes and were treated with Candy from the lr. and Sr. High classes. Charlie Pulcher and Jeremy Simpson were the class costixme winners. The Kindergartners had fun their first 'year in school and are looking forward to the First Grade, Jeremy' Simpson doesn't mind a small wait to hop on the teeter-totter with Scott West.

Mrs. Cherry Randall's class enjoyed a field trip each month. Some of which includ- ed the Coast Guard Cutter North- wind, Chandler's Wharf, Poplar Grove Plantation, N.C. Marine Re- sources Center, and the New Han- over County Museum. During Hal- loween, the children enjoyed mak- ing candy apples, carving a pump- kin, and trick-or-treating in the gym. On Thanksgiving, the stu- dents participated in the annual Pilgrim Day feast with Kindergar- ten, First, and Third Grades. They dressed up like Pilgrims and pigged out on a meal prepared by parents and the cafeteria staff. When the kids were questioned by their teacher about what Second Grade was to them, she had these results: Freddy Simpson, Where you learn times and how to do fun stuff p Lori Baker, Work, play, art, and making things g Marvin Spruill, Where you work and a nice place. What is Second Grade? . . . Learning the fun way. Erica Meadows, the hula-hoop expert, takes full advantage of recess. eere eoX Q is X sl X XXX 1 XX?
