I VARSITY BOYS REACH THEIR FIRST STATE PLAYOFPS The 1983-84 Varsity Boys Bas- ketball season was a successful one. They enjoyed a 9-3 conference re- cord and a 13-7 regular season re- cord. The Boys cruised to many lop- sided victories throughout the sea- son and gained momentum during the Christmas tournaments. De- feats were suffered only to the infa- mous Cape Fear Academy and Har- rells. Due to a heart-breaking loss in the closing seconds at Harrells, the Raiders placed third in the con- ference behind the two rivals. After the loss, the Raiders came together and smashed the opposition in their final three regular season games. New-comer Stewart Hobbs coached the Raiders through a fine season. Coach Hobbs, a former resident of Clinton, graduated from Clinton High School. Following high school, he moved to Wilming- ton and attended UNC-W, where he earned a B.A. degree in Health and Physical Education. His reply to What is it like to be a new coach at P.A.? was, I found it very chal- lenging and enjoyable. Again, though, there were times when I wondered why I ever wanted to be a coach. However, I gained alot of good experience during my first year of coaching at P.A. Congratulations to the Varsity Boys for a fine season. All of the hard work paid off. ir t Row We ley Clark Chri Sullivan Coach Stewart Hobbs, Scott Sullivan, Matt Turlington, Second Row: job Connor, Bill Watson, Brian Daniel Billy Bailey jerry McKoy Andy McKoy john Dewar, Kevin Benton.
