Fifty-five Class of '52 W Fifty-six Motto: ff vw fllllyf find a 'ZUtI.X', 10511 mulev nm' The Highway of Tomorrow Walking down the road of life, we come finally to a highway Which will lead us on to goals yet unknown. The Highway of Tomorrow. Our lives on our journey have been molded into that shape Which will cause us to search for new horizons To be conquered and explored. Our years have passed with the speed of light, allowing us To get only glimpses of a happiness untold. Yet, our goal is won. Now our hearts and minds look backward to old friendships, And we pause for a fleeting moment To survey the land ahead. Though the road has been steep and rough at times, we have Fond recollections for all that we are to leave behind- Fond memorys of the past. The new pathways to be trod will find us traveling to all Parts of the world. New lives to be molded, new friends, New things to be remembered. Today as we wind up the road of the future, we wish to say farewell- Not for ever-but just for a short time-to all which has been ours, On our Highway of Tomorrow. Coach Mervine Sixty-tllrv xty-funn' Our Season l l Pen Argyl-12 E'Burg-6 The Pen Argyl High School football season was opened with a hard earned Win against the Cavaliers of East Stroudsburg. Although the score showed that our boys had played a Winning game, there was no doubt in anyone's mind that we would need polish on both offensive and defensive playing. To Dick Paolini goes the credit of having scored the first touchdown of the season. A try for the big extra point failed and Pen Argyl was out in front with a 6-O edge. East Stroudsburg retaliated midway in the second half of the game with an outstanding run of 74 yards. Score 5-6. Pen Argyl was able to score again which brought a definite l2-E5 victory to us. me t o o l Pen Argyl-12 Catasczuqua-13 Fresh from the East Stroudsburg victory, cmd sporting an improved offensive and defensive armor, the team met a pass conscious eleven from Catasauqua. Although our boys were on the losing end of the game in the first half, they showed definite improvement in the second half. Coming from behind with a 6-0 deficit, Pen Argyl romped for another 6 points in the third quarter. Victory seemed sure for the home team but an undaunted Catasauqua eleven rallied for 7 more points in the last minutes of the game. The resulting tally showed 13 points for Catty , l2 points for Pen Argyl. Pen Argyl-25 Stroudsburg-7 Stinging from the 13-12 defeat at the hands of Catty , Pen Argyl was deter- mined to get back in the winning column as they met Stroudsburg. Lugg had a field day as he scored three touchdowns. Stroudsburg had a moment of glory when they scored a touchdown at the beginning of the second half. C. Miller assured our victory when he scored the final touchdown to give the Green and White a 25-7 victory. Pen Argyl-27 ' Washington-7 Fresh from a rousing victory over the Stroudsburg Mountaineers , the Pen Argyl eleven was determined to win two straight as they played host to the Blue Devils of Washington. Again the Green Wave went on a scoring rampage as Gum, C. Miller, Lugg, and Catino all scored touchdowns. I. Miller booted four extra points to give the home team a 28-0 lead at half time. Wash- ington scored two touchdowns in the second half but only after the Pen Argyl second and third teams were put into the game. The game ended with the score reading 28-12 in favor of the home team. l Sixty-livv Sixty-six Pen Argyl-9 Nazareth-14 After tasting victory twice in succession, the 'Green Wave traveled to Naza- reth to try to beat a team from which they hadn't won a game in the last three years. At the end of the first half of a thrill-packed game, the Blue Eagles held a 7-U lead. Then in the ill-fated second half, the visitors put on a drive that ended only after the t'Green and White had put the ball on the other side of the Nazareth goal line. Late in the game Nazareth got the opportunity which enabled them to score the winning touchdown. Although the Pen Argyl- ites were defeated, the entire Green and White line played an outstanding game as they continuously broke through the Blue and White line to raise havoc with their backfield. Lane also got credit for scoring a safety in the closing minutes of the game as the visitors bowed 14-9. Pen Argyl-13 Wilson-8 Thoroughly disgusted with themselves after being beaten by Nazareth, the local eleven vowed to get back on the winning side of the ledger as they met the ever dangerous Wilson High eleven on the home field. After the visitors scored an early touchdown, the Green Wave came back to tally six points for themselves as the result of a 55 yard jaunt. An intercepted pass set up the second Green and White touchdown. A few minutes later the home team scored their second touchdown, with l. Miller adding the extra point. Lane played an impressionable game against the Wilson backfield, as he harrassed the Blue and Gold backfield. The final score stood l3-6 as the final whistle was blown. Sixt5 Sixty-eight Pen Argyl-26 Coplay-13 Playing their last game before the big Turkey Day contest with Bangor, Pen Argyl, with a number of regulars benched with injuries, encountered the 'llVla- roon and Gray of Coplay. After Coplay scored once, the 'lGreen and White roared back and crossed the enemy goal three times, Before the half was over, the visitors pushed across another touchdown which made the score l9el3. ln the third period, Pen Argyl climaxed their scoring as Lawler galloped l6 yards for the score. The game ended Z6-l3 in Pen Argyl's favor. . s X sts , Ati Pen Argyl-7 Bangor-18 At last the big game was here. After having won the lke Besh trophy last year, the team had every intention of getting a good start toward winning it for the second time. But Bangor had other ideas. Bangor opened the scoring by driving from mid-field to the goal line for the score. After an exchange of punts, a 49 yard pass play from C. Miller to Catino resulted in a Green and White touchdown. The pass for the extra point was good and Pen Argyl led 7-5. ln the closing moments of the first half, Bangor got their big chance of the game when a deflected Bangor pass was grabbed by one of the visitors who stepped over the goal line for the score. This made the score l2-7 at half-time. Neither team did much during the second half although Bangor scored once more. The home team came to life late in the fourth quarter, but it was too late as Bangor Walked off the field the victor, l8-7. Sixty-nine H W ws ,ff Q W E z , x fx SR, Wvx, my' Q xg. NGN...
