THE CLASS OF FORTY-FIVE TWENTY-Foun 4-44? The flower which represents our class In all our fixture Zllld all our past, Is the white carnation, pure and fair, Wfhose fragrant odor fills the air. The white stands for the purity Wltieli all our members seem to seeg The green stands for our High School lVith all its happiness and tears. The odor which is rare and sweet, An odor that you'll surely meet, Is precious and secure to our mind, For in it one classmate we'll find. The hrst carnation of our class Alone we left into the past. To dwell in lands of lovely flowers Beneath the ivory twining bowers. She wore a smile on her face, She possessed loveliness in her grace. And so her name lives on with us, That we cannot forget her thus. So when the flowers we shall place Upon our gowns with elegant grace, And look into its radiant bloom, lVe'll think of all its fore-going doom. Each of us some day will meet l'Vilh this carnation on a street, lVhere life will never, never end, And goodness we will all defend. So as a flower may pass away As darkness comes at close of day, Once again the sun shall rise To break the darkness of the skies. In this flower we'll always see glean, just as she appeared to me, The one carnation sweet and rare That vanished 'mid the gloomy air. Alone amid the hills of grass, The lonely flower blooms at last, And throws its gleam along life's way, To guide us safely day by day.
