Our faces Showed that we were eaver and ver anxious to know what was in store cv Y for us. Our first social function was a Doggie Roast, which was held at the Second Reservoirn with Mr. Macadam in charge. Everyone had an enjoyable time at this, our first outing. . School Days arrived once again in the fall of 1933. This year only i70 students returned. NVe organized our class with Miss Bonney as our class advisor. I A very important event took place this year--the selection of our class rings. ' H1934 School Bells were ringing, calling all of us back, but as fate would have it only S1 pupils arrived to enjoy our Junior Yearf, , This year our class advisor was Miss Shannon. The first thing which was of interest to every pupil in the Junior Class was the Junior Prize Speak- ing Contest. On May 4, 1935, the junior Girls made a journey to Bethlehem, Pa., where we were the guests of Moravian College. Mrs. Kress and Miss May were the chaperons. The most important occasion of this year was our Junior Banquet, which was held at Buck Hill Falls on May 10, 1935, with the following guests: Miss Bonney, Miss May, Mr. McFall and Mr. Kellow. At last, after three years of hard work and struggle, we reached our Senior Year. Our class of 34 pupils was organized under the supervision of Mr. Lahr. The first thing which took place this year was a Magazine Contest in which every pupil took an active part. On November 26, 1935, our class held a Doggie Roast at Saylor's Lake, with Mr. Horn in charge. This year, as in our Junior Year, the girls were invited to Moravian College. Miss Lobb and Miss May were the chaperons. One of the big events during the entire Senior Year happened on the evening of May 15th. Have you guessed? The ever-anticipated occasion of the Senior Banquet held at the Inn at Buck Hill Falls. Need we say more? The date will indeed be a memorable one in the heart of every member in the class. Everyone, including the guests, had a most enjoyable evening. The guests present were: Mr. Muth, Mrs. Imhof, Miss Bonney, Miss Lobb, Mrs. Kress, Miss May, Mr. Lahr, Mr. Stopp, Mr. Bonney, Mr. McFall, Mr. Smith, Mr. Horn and Mr. Iago. As this book goes to press we are still contemplating the Class Day Exercises, Baccalaureate Services and Commencement Exercises. Four years of past history! They are painted vividly on our memories as happy ones. -Ethel Lobb page thirteen page ffmriecwz VERLO BERNICE AMY Bern Opfretzfag O-rclocstrag Glee Club. We haven't 'been able to dig up much about Fuss, but don't you think he is one of those quiet individuals. You should see him outside the school and then you would know why he doesn't have much time to bother with extra-curricular activities. A happy future to you, PusS . QJISJIOJYESQ PRCJPI-IECY S iT PossnsLE that twenty-five years have elapsed since our carefree high school days? Tonight we are to see our old-time classmates at a banquet to be held at the Ritz, one of America's outstanding hotels under the proprietorship of Anthony Bet. The master of ceremonies is none other than our one-time star quarterback, Milton Phillips, while the music for the evening will be furnished by Morgan, the Old Maestro, and his Hi Falutin' Tootersn and the renowned crooner, Chits Darrohn, who will favor us with the latest jazz numbers. The sen- sational dance team of Janey and Denny will also entertain us with some of their newest dance routines. Listen, the announcer has something to say. XVho can be coming so early? Why it is one of our happily married classmates, formerly Miss Gladys Male, now married and living in Bangor. The name of Dr. Robert Einstein Lugg, professor of Mathematics at Harvard University, is heard echoing through the massive ballroom. You certainly can see that he has become successful. Here comes an odd trio! Well, if it isn't Wayland Getz with our former class twins, Dot Fio- rot and Ethel Lobb, one on each arm.. Experience must have taught Getzy that love is not blind . The latest arrival is Esther Holloway, wearing one of her newest creations. Tillie ,made the trip all the way from Hollywood, for she is the head designer for M. G. M. Studios. Wfho should be coming now but the Honorable Verne Parsons, Chief Burgess of Wind Gap, fol- lowed closely by his old pal, Cup Kopko, who has met his fame coaching the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. There is Miss Lola Morris coming into the ballroom. Have you heard that she is the private sec- retary of the President of the Standard Oil Company? Quiet, please. Listen to the announcement of the next arrival. Leroy Robert Hughes, B. A., M. A., Ph. D. It always was Trix's ambition to be surrounded by girls, and it is realized, for he is President of Vassar College. Here come our Olympic stars, Miss Ruth Hahn, champion figure skater, and Miss Martha Hill, outstanding woman parachute jumper. Unfortunately, they are unable to display their talents, because of inadequate facilities. Dear me, who can that be clothed in furs and silks? 'Well, I believe it's Eunice Herritt. She is America's wealthiest heiress. Another celebrity, Charles Snyder, has just arrived. Charles is now manager of the Chicago White Sox, and is accompanied by his charming wife and the little sox. Miss Virginia Cousins and Miss Dorothy Doney were just announced. Although these two are dis- tinctly opposite in height, they follow the same profession, Ginny, a proprietress of a candy shop, and Dot a dietitian. Following these two comes their old pal, and thc speaker of the evening, Miss Ruth Dennis, now first woman President of the United States. She is accompanied by her private secretary, Miss Kath- erine Repsher. XY'ho is that couple just entering? Can it be? . . . Yes, it is the former Verlo Amy and her hus- band, who is the chief executive of a cooperative dairy union. page twewzty-three QJIEMOJUQSQ Directly back of them is Miss Elma Case, who, much to our surprise, has not yet been married. Elma is now head of a drugstore which is located in XVind Gap. The next arrivals are the three stenogs, Esther Rutt, Ruth Pauling, and Erma Toth. Old P. A. H. S. gave them their start on the road to fame. It's almost time to eat. Wfhere can the rest of the guests be? Oh! Here is someone. Why, itis Kathryn Horwell! Arriving at the last minute as usual. I suppose that you all have heard that Kate is instructress of Physical Education at Vfildcliff, Where she was once a student. Vfilbur XVagner, head of Economy Stores, has just entered the room. He must have benefited by his apprenticeship while in high school, for now he certainly is a successful business man. NVho can that be wearing the uniform with shiny buttons? Oh, I know. It's the former Betty Kitto, who has just been elected to the position of honorary solo flutist of the Marine Band. As the dinner gong sounds, in rushes Madelyn Broad, R. N., who was delayed because she had just flown here from a nurses' conference in Europe. Everyone is seated at the table, when last, but not least, Robert .Tones comes into the room. Even though he is an auto salesman, and claims that his car will get you there on time, it failed to uphold its reputation. The gaiety begins, and thus we leave as the members of the class begin to discuss the events which have elapsed since their last meeting. The Band was organized by William E. Muth, Supervis- ing principal of the Pen Argyl School District, about 1925, and is still under his leadership. The purpose of the organization is to stimulate an interest in, and appreciation for good music. The Band, when first organized, numbered about 16 members. Year by year the number increased until the membership reached 92, which was the greatest number of pupils registered in Band work in our schools. At the present time there are 75 in the High School Band, including the Drum Major, Standard Bearers, and Flag Bearers. From remunemfiong I-eceivgd from playing at concerts and festivals, and contributions received from individuals in the community, it was decided, ID 1928, to purchase regular band uniforms using the school colors of green and white. From that time on, the Band grew in leaps and bounds-financially as well as numerically. From the receipts, additional uniforms were purchased and additional instruments added to the Band. The Band has played at American Legion Parades, Halloweien Parades, Firemen's Parades, Com- munity Anniversary Parades, Weona Park Celebrations, numerous festivals, Children's Christmas Parties, and several times at Alumni Day exercises at Lehigh University. The Band has broadcasted from Station 'WCBA at Allentown, and from Station WJZ in New York City. One of the most outstanding contests in which our Band has participated was the High School Band Contest, held at Lafayette College, and at which Dr. Edwin Franko Goldman was present and conducted the massed bands in several selections. The Pen Argyl High School Band, registered in Class C, won First Prize. At the 1936 Commencement Exercises the following Seniors will receive gold emblems, as a re- membrance of their membership in this organization: Mnzlclyvz Broad, Ruflo Dennis, Kathryn Harwell, Brffy Kiflo, Charles Morgan, Lola Morris, Jane Parsons, Ruth Pauling, Milton Phillips, Esther Ruff. v T page fhirfy-5011011 OJIEJIOJTIESQ PEN ARGYL HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' GLEE CLUB MRS. Kress, the present directress, during the school term of 192611927, for the purpose of promoting a deeper appreciation of music expression in voice training of high school girls. The membership has grown from 20 members singing two-part harmony, to the present enrollment of approx- imately 6O members, singing three and four-part harmony. One of the annual presentations which the Girls' Glee Club sponsors is the Christmas Carol Service, held in one of the local churches, and is always looked forward to with great anticipation. After the Christmas Carol Services, the next few months are spent in the preparation for an operetta which is usu- ally presented sometime during the beginning of the second semester. i The most important program of the year is the annual Spring Concert which is the culmination of a year's work and which necessitates a great deal of preparation. The Glee Club renders selections at Parent-Teacher Association Meetings, Baccalaureate Services, Woman,s Club Meetings, Teachers' Institutes and numerous other activities throughout this and sur- rounding communities. The Glee Club has also broadcasted over Station XVCBA at Allentown. One of the most outstanding events in which the Girls' Glee Club has ever participated was the Choral Festival lteld at Lafayette College and which was composed of S00 members directed by Dr, John XVarren Erb. Massed high school choruses sang several selections and the entire chorus of S00 voices ren- dered Ben Hur by Dr. Edgar Stillman Kelly, who was present at the Festival. Another prominent fea- ture during the present year consisted of County and District Contests in the Music and Forensic League, the Pen Argyl Girls' Glee Club having won First Prize in the County Contest.
