Mr. Quint and Miss Clements served as our faculty advisors. We el- ected the following students as officers: president, Mark Clark; vice president, James Harper; secretary, Lurae Dolliver; treasurer, Bob Stanley. Tanya Harkins and Carol Andrews were elected as Student Council representatives. Soon after school began, we were formally initiated by the Sophomores. The girls wore night gowns, burlap over their sneakers, baby bonnets, and carried baby bottles. The boys wore tight skirts, burlap shirts, ladies hats, high heels, and lipstick and rouge. The fall of 1960 proved the beginning of a very eventful Sophomore year with Mr. Johnson as our advisor. Our first official act was the election of class officers as follows: president, Mark Clark; vice president, Bob Stanley; secretary, Lurae Dol- liver; treasurer, Joanne Robbins; Student Council representatives, Tanya Harkins and Lucille Lewis, fn addition to a hilarious initiation for the Freshmen, our class also sponsored a successful Sophomore Hop. This year was eventful in a multitude of other ways. Selling potato chips, andpretzels at games and noon times, in addition to spon- soring several dances, supplemented our treasury and gave us much pleasure, also. As an added attraction , we proudly published monthly editions of the school paper PowWow . Our year ended with a very momentous occasion in our high school life, the selection of our class rings. Our Junior year was a busy, fun-filled one indeed. We were all delighted to re- ceive our class rings the first day. Our two big events of the year were the Junior Prom and the publishing of THE PEMETIC. We sold soda pop at the basketball games to help increase our treasury. Our officers elected for the year were as follows: president, Mark Clark; vicepresident, Bob Stanley; secretary, Lurae Dolliver; treas- urer, Alice Tapley. Student Council representatives were Tanya Harkins and Joanne Robbins. Our class advisors were Miss Denihan and Mr. Renwick. In the autumn of 1962, we began our final year at Pemetic under the able direction of Mr. Crafts. We displayed an enrollment of thirty-two members, sixteen less than the forty-eight we had started our Freshman year with. We elected our class officers for the final time-—president, Mark Clark; vice president, Loren Spurling; secretary, Lurae Dolliver; treasurer, Alice Tapley; Student Council representatives, Tanya Har- kins and John Dunbar. Our class pictures, announcements and name cards were ex- changed early in the year. We presented the Senior Play, One Mad Night, a fast moving mystery farce, under the direction of Miss Denihan. The Play had a cast of fourteen and was enjoyed by everybody. Graduation is now nearing and future plans are being deeply considered. The four short years we spent together at Pemetic as a class have been full of unforgettable memories that will remain with us forever. 23 FIRST ROW, L. to R.: E. Davis, D. Tapley, G. Butler, L. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY About the year 1920, a committee was formed for the purpose of recognizing out- standing ability and achievement in the secondary schools of this country, and the National Honor Society was founded. This society of high schools is an outgrowth of many such honor societies in colleges. The Society does not consider Scholarship alone. The constitution of this national organization recognizes four principal objectives and ideals as fundamental in all educa- tion practice: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service. The purpose is to hold these objectives abou everything else as goals toward which we should all strive. In keeping these objectives before our school, we hope to induce others to seek good scholar- ly habits, to take part in worthy service, and to lead forward in all things that advance the welfare of the school--always building up their own characters in carrying out these motives. Membership in this Society is considered one of the highest honors that our school can confer. The emblem of this organization is the keystone and flaming torch. At the base of the keystone appear the letters C, S, L, S, which represent the four chief principles of the Society--Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. The colors of the Society are blue and gold. Blue is the symbol of truth, and gold is the light by which truth radiates through the world. The flaming torch is the emblem of the purposes of the organization— to bear forward the searching light of truth, to lead that others may follow in the light, to keep burning in our school a high ambition for the enduring value of life, and to serve in consideration of others. THIRD ROW: G. Higgins, B. Hebron, S. Beal, J. Dunbar, R. Bunker, and N. Boynton. SECOND ROW: S. Mattern, B. Workman, C. Harkins, G. Cummings, T. Harkins, and B. Worcester. FRONT ROW: Mr. Furtwengler, L. Dolliver, C. Cousins, M. Clark, and A. Tapley. STUDENT COUNCIL The purpose of the Student Council is to develop attitudes of and practice in, good citizenship; improve student-teacher relationships; assistance in the management of the school; providing orderly direction of school activities; and promoting the general wel- fare of the school. . . . ... . . Its principal contribution to learning lies in the development of good citizenship which is one of the objectives of all schools. It is known that good citizenship involves not only knowing and understanding, but also action. Action is the only way for a student council to maintain its prestige. ... T. The main function of the council is to provide learning experiences for students. It contributes significantly toward the attainment of the school’s educational objectives. The council represents the highest student organization in the school, for it is repre- sentative of the entire student body. All powers of the student council are delegated to it by the school administration. Therefore, the principal has the full power of veto. S3 BAND Clarinets D. Young K. Turner N.
