With Mr. Edes as advisor, our forty-eight members elected the following officers: president, Sandra Norwood; vice president, Darrell Hubbs; sec- retary, Joyce Mitchell; and treasurer, Rebecca Gilley. Brian Trask and Charles Birlem were chosen to represent the class on the Student Council. The fun began when those seemingly merciless sophomores initiated us. During that fateful time, the girls wore men's pajamas, men's shirts, men's shoes, and neckties. They wore their hair in braids which were tied with colorful ribbons. The boys wore women's dresses, high heels, long under- wear, big red bows around their heads, and plenty of makeup. We were all required to perform a jump-rope act for our rulers. The next fall, we returned with forty-four members. At our first class meeting, we elected the following officers: president, Darrell Hubbs; vice- president, David Cunio; secretary, Sandra Norwood; and treasurer, Charles Farley. Brian Trask and Rebecca Gilley were chosen as Student Council Representatives. Our advisor was Mr. Mackenson. In October, our chance finally came, and we initiated the freshmen. This fun-filled event was en- joyed by all. This year we sponsored the annual Sophomore Hop with the theme of Wise Fool's Folly. We worked hard this year and successfully published The Pow Wow. We sold potato chips, popcorn, and pretzels at the ball games and during the noon hours. This year we ordered our class rings. We entered our junior year with forty-one members. That year we e- lected the following officers: president, Rebecca Gilley; vice-president, Darrell Hubbs; secretary, Sandra Norwood; and treasurer, Faye Alley. Candy Christian and Brian Trask were the Student Council representatives. With Mr. Crafts as our adviser we began what later proved to be a very busy year. Sporting our new class rings, which had arrived at the begin- ning of the school term, we began the strenuous task of publishing THE PEMETIC. We sold pop at the basketball games in order to further sup- plement our treasury. Our class sponsored our first formal event - the Junior Prom. In the face of 1961, we began our final year at Pemetic. The following people were elected to serve as class officers: president, Darrell Hubbs; vice-president, Brian Trask; secretary, Sandra Norwood; and treasurer, Rebecca Gilley. Judy Hutchins and Edward Smith were chosen as Student Council representatives. Under the guidance of Mr. Crafts, we at once be- gan to work at the many tasks that the senior year brings. We ordered in- vitations, name cards, and we had our pictures taken. In October, we pre- sented as the Senior Play, Lily, the Felon's Daughter, a three-act melo- drama. During our four years of high school we were well represented in all extracurricular activities. When we entered high school, we thought of the hard four years that loomed ahead of us. Now that graduation is nearing, we look back at the four SHORT years and remember them as good, forgetting the bad. IS 1st Row: (1 to r) J. Klausky, T. Harkins, A. Tapley, M. Clark, B. Stanley, L. I., Pittsfield BASKETBALL Although the basketball team did not have a very impressive record this year, it did show a great deal of talent in the latter part of the season under the direction of our new Coach, John Christie. Coach Christie hopes to return the Pemetic Indians to the top within two or three years. Next year's team will be hurt by the loss of Seniors Darrell Hubbs, Charles Farley, Harvard Vine, and Jimmy Black. Returning next year will be Loren Spurling, Mark Clark, Alan Spurling, David Harding, Fritz Mattern, and Dale Mills. Next year's team will probably face the same tough schedule as this year's team did. Next year's returnees will also include some fine players from the Junior Varsity. This year's schedule is as follows: Dec. 1 Ellsworth Home Dec. 5 Sumner Home Dec. 8 Lubec Away Dec. 12 Bucksport Away Dec. 15 Stevens Home Dec. 19 Stonington Home Jan. 3 Bar Harbor Away Jan. 5 Mt. Desert Home Jan. 9 Ellsworth Away Jan. 12 Sumner Away Jan. 16 Bar Harbor Home Jan. 19 Lubec Home Jan. 23 Bucksport Home Jan. 26 Stevens Away Jan. 30 Mt. Desert Away Feb. 2 Stonington Away CROSS COUNTRY This year was a rebuilding year for Pemetic's Cross Country Team because it lost three of its top five runners from last year. Next year's team will also have to suffer the loss of Darrell Hubbs. If the team picks up two more good runners to go along with Loren Spurling, John Leonard, and John Varnum, it could have a very successful season next year. 3t VARSITY BASKETBALL SNAPSHOTS • • Standing L-R: J.
