SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Of the forty-tive members who started in the Freshman Class in 1944, twenty- nine are now graduating. As the last days of our happy four years at Pemetic come to a close, we recall with great joy and satisfacton the fun we've had and the people we've met. XfVe soon had members of our class representing us in several activities. Rodney Webster, Bill Searls, and Dick Allen were a part of the basketball squad, with Barbara Kenney, Katharine Benson and Edith XVorcester as cheerleaders to help make the noise at the games. Marilyn Carroll and Edith 'Worcester took part in the jun'or Prize Speaking Exhibition while four of our more talented members, Arthur Moore, Vance Frost, Dick Allen and Barbara Kenney took part in the Jamboree. The class picnic at Echo Lake in june brought to a happy close our Freshman year at Pemetic. VVhen school opened in September we had an enrollment of thirty-nine in the Sophomore class. The first big event on our calendar was the imtiation we gave the Freshmen. Dick Allen and Art Moore were again members of the varsity basketball squad and Bob Closson was on the junior varsity team. Katharine Benson, Edith VVor- cester, and Barbara Kenney were again chosen to be cheerleaders. Nancy Spurling and Shirley jones were on the junior varsity cheerleading squad. This year Allison Bunker was the high salesman for the school during the magazine drive. Only one member of our class was in Public Speaking this year. Edith Worces- ter represented us in this and the Senior Play, too. The nine members of our class on the National Honor Society were Richard Allen, Vance Frost, Shirley jones, Clarence LaCount, Arthur Moore, XVilliam Searls, Rodney VVebster, Ralph Stanley, and Edith VVorcester. VVe also made up nearly half the membership of the Oop's Club. Several students from our class were on the Pow-VV ow staff. Our junior year at Pemetic was indeed a busy one. NfVe are very proud of the honors we attained in inter-class games that year. The boys won the Inter- scholastic Football t't1e and the girls brought home the bacon in the form of the Inter-scholastic Basketball title. Dick Allen, Art Moore, and Bill Searls represented our class on the varsity basketball squad again this year with Vance Frost as their most able manager. Shirley Kelley played on the junior varsity squad. Varsity cheerleaders were again Katharine Benson, Edith VVorcester, Barbara Kenney, and newly elected Jean Boomer. In junior Prize Speaking, our class was well represented by Katharine Benson, Marilyn Carroll, jean Boomer, and Edith Wforcester. Edith won second place this year and of course we were very proud. Members of our class again on the National I-Ionor Society were: Clarence La- Count, Ralph Stanley, Richard Allen, Vance Frost, Arthur Moore, Jean Boomer, Edith XfVorcester, and XVilliam Searls. jean Boomer. Edith XfVorcester, Verona Storms, and Charlotte Gilley were O11 the junior Prom Committee. , Our class picnic was held at Lucerne-in-Maine this year at Mrs. VValker's camp. Now comes the last and perhaps the most important year in the school life of all students-the Senior year. The iirst big event was the annual Senior Three Act Play, The Young Fry, the cast of which was: Jean Boomer, Barbara Kenney, Edith WO1'CCSICl', George Lawson, Dick Allen, Verona Storms, Bill Searls, Helen Parker, Art Moore, Marilyn Carroll, and Mamie Reynolds. To take tickets at the door were Katharine Benson and Louise Phippen. Separate committees for graduation were so numerous they could not all he named hut on the graduating committee were Helen Parker, Marilyn Carroll and .-'Xllison Bunker who worked w.th Mr. Ronco, Mr. Benson and Miss 'l'hayer. Our class was well represented on the varsity basketball squad with Dick Allen and Arthur Moore as Co-captains and Bill Searls and Shirley Kelley playing an active part. To help keep the games peppy were cheerleaders Barbara lfenney, .lean lloomer, Katharine Henson, Edith Mforcester, and Nancy Spurling. CORRIDOR WARDENS The Corridor X'Varclcns were organized several years ago as air-raid wardens but are now no longer necessary in that particular respect. The wardens did an excellent job during the war so have been kept on duty in the corridors directing new students to proper classes, keeping students from running and crowding, and in general, decreasing confusion in the corridors. Q i 30 T5 V-. L P I From Uur Tournament Scrap Books Pemetic fans have bulging scrapbooks-filled with pictures, scores, and write-ups of the ex- citement of the past basketball season. Here are just a few of the notes taken from those memorable days which still make us swell with pride of the Indians and Pemetic . . . The In- dians waged a war on the Orono Red Riots in Class M game number two. The Injuns copped the Mt. Desert crown previous to the tourney selections and were also one of three teams to make the tournament without a playoff . . . Pemetic rallied late in its first tournament game to edge Orono 35-33 . . . Dick Allen was the rebound artist for the Pemetinjuns. The Injuns staged the top comeback in the sessions to gain a two-point lead, staged a 45-second freeze, then eked out the verdict . . . Members of the team and the varsity cheerleaders celebrated the team's vic- tory over Orono in their first game of the tournament by having dinner in Bangor after the game . . . From the Milo game . . . The final splurge by the Indians had their followers wild with joy while the hearts of the Milo fans dropped . . . Captain Dick Allen scooped in a court-length pass and laid up a two-pointer that was a nifty play . . . Captain Dick Allen and Buster Trask had the Tigers in a dither under the board. The Indians really began to roll in the third frame as they presented smooth-working plays to set a man under the hoop with the ball . . . Guards- men Bill Searls and Larry Sinclair also added a. lot to the defense of the Redskins while Don Reed and Buster Trask kept the rival forwards scurrying down court . . . After the Eastern Maine Championship . . . Congratulations are in order to four grand clubs . . . Eastern Maine champions Pemetic and Blue Hill and runner-up Milo and Corinna . . . for presenting one of the greatest windnps in small schools tourney history. Congrats are due Harry Hayes and Lloyd Hatfield, the two winning coaches, along with Dick Allen and Sid Freedman, selected the out- standing men of their respective divisions by officials . . . Allen not only was outstanding on the offense but gathered more than his share of rebounds off both boards . . . Allen and Trask both placed on the Class M All-tou1'ney club . . . and Reed, Kenney, and Fahey were named to the second Class M tourney team . . . A rally for the Maine championship game with Farmington High School was held on the Friday before the game. Three outside speakers were Charles Sawyer, jr., Raymond Whitmore, and Superintendent of Schools, Paul Brown . . . Although the Indians bowed out in a bid for the state Class M basketball championship, faithful followers of Pemetic high school will sing the praises for the gallant crew for some time to come . . . Mr. and Mrs. Hermon Smith entertained the Pemetic varsity team in honor of their winning the Eastern Maine Class M Championship .... Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Carpenter entertained the varsity cheer- leaders for a steak dinner . . . The Whole town turned out to the banquet sponsored -by the American Legion in honor of the boysv . . . Ernie Miller presented the players with their sweaters, he also gave Coach Hayes a token of appreciation and each of the cheerleaders and their coach, Miss Waterman, with a gold megaphone . . . An exciting season topped off with a heart-stirring banquet . . . Hereas to next year's basketball season! 'Dick looks 'specially nice in the sweater presented to him for this achievement. r-,'-:--- 4 ' ' W I 2 w . 1 . I 4, ..
