For two hundred and fifty seniors, the college experience did not end with triumphant final exams or last semester coasting. Instead, student- teachhing rounded out undergraduate education, fulfilling the final requirements for teacher certifi- cation. Beginning with the four week block of methods and education courses, the program gave its participants a glimpse of the outside world and the view from the other side of the desk. Despite the shortage of teaching positions in the past few years, the curriculum was thriving as students were assigned to seventeen different ad- ministrative units in the area. STUDENT TEACHING 23

Norman Macleod Poet-in-residence r, poet in residence, win- ner of the Horace Gregory award, and editor of the Pem- broke Magazine. A resume of his work and personal accomplishments would fill pages of single spaced typed copy. He has taught in more than twenty three various schools through- out the United States and in such places as the University of Baghdad, Baghdad, Iraq. He has edited several magazines: 1930-32, American editor of the first tri-lingual literary magazine in the world, FRONT (Amsterdam, Holland); American editor of the MORADA (Lagodi Garda, Italy); 1942-44, Editorial Direc- tor of the MARYLAND QUARTERLY (University of Mary- land, College Park, Maryland); 1944-47, INTERNA- TIONAL LITERARY REVIEW (Briarcliff Junior College, Briarcliff Manor, New York); Guest Editor of CRONOS (Ohio State University, Columbus); and from 1969 to pre- sent Editor of the Pembroke Magazine which is known in- ternationally. In addition to the number of literary magazines Norman MacLeod has been a part of during the past forty years and the teaching he has accomplished, he has managed to write and have published two novels and five volumes of poetry. The papers of Norman MacLeod are housed in the Yale Collection of American Literature. He is included in the 1969 Edition of the Directory of American Scholars. MacLeod ' s reading of his poetry has been recorded on six- teen 12-inch discs for the archives of the Division of Music, Library of Congress, and his work is praised in Literary History of the United States. MacLeod, who is completing his seventh year at P.S.U., and is approaching his 68th birthday, has no plans to re- tire. As he said, a writer never retires. vmiWtlAMlMilikMtUitutlMfiv
