On the northern end of the campus, construction began on the university ' s new auditorium Through out the year the burned-out shell of Old Main remamed where it has stood smce 1923 The building which once housed the first all-Indian College in the United States was seriously gutted by flames on March 19, 1973 following area Indian demonstrations. Old Main made newspaper headlines, was one of the top ten local news stories of the year, was visited by the gover- nor, and has received thousands of dollars for research into its rebuilding. In spite of it all the building ' s future remained shrouded in indecision

North, South. West . on-campus environment for less than one-third of the student bodv. This number had the unique opportunity of hearing ten sieretjs at one time, crawling downstairs at four-thirty to let a room- mate in a locked door, or the chance to get to know so many people so well. To some of the residents, development of visita- tion policies seemed to move at a snail ' s pace. with only the womens dormitories offering the priyilege, while others were completely satisfied and content with the rules and regulations. As usual, vocal gripes filled the halls, ' the damn elevator breaks all the fime . those drink machines are thieves , and the open d x)r ' is rather silly , but the convenience and securilv of- fered by the buildings continued to lure residents.
