intellectual emphasis . . . While providing the tools and the environment for learning, PSC puts the emphasis not only on growing knowledge, but also on strengthening intellectual purpose. For example, academic suc- cess is a requirement for college marshals, mem- bers of student-faculty committees, and other positions of honor and responsibility. The new Mary Livermore Library, warehouse of knowl- edge, has more than 50,000 volumes, 327 maga- zines, three microfilm readers, and up-to date audio-visual facilities in air-conditioned, brightly lighted, handsomely furnished surroundings. Excellent new science laboratories and class- rooms encourage the exploration of the physical world. The books, the equipment, the guidance of interested teachers, and the leadership of good students combine to make a favorable en- vironment for reaching the goal of intellectual enrichment.

Competitive Sports . , . Each year PSC produces winning teams in many sports. The 1968 cross- country team upset Wake Forest and Davidson among others. With eleven wins, two losses they stole the N.A.I. A. District 29 championship from Lynch- burg. The 1967-68 track team with a re- cord of eight wins, two losses were runners-up to Catawba College in the N.A.I. A. District 26 tournament. With a record of nine wins, three losses PSC ' s 1968 soccer team produced three Ail- American candidates after having upset East Carolina, Davidson, and Methodist College. The 1967-68 basketball team ran away with several tournament trophies last year. With a record of twenty wins, nine losses the team finished second in the district. The base- ball team which finished with a record of twenty-eight wins, seven losses and pro- duced two Ail-American players, sent many large colleges and universities down to defeat. Indeed. PSC ' s Braves consistently reach high levels of ex- cellence in competitive sports.
