For a Quarter of a Century of service, the senior class dedicates the 1967 Indianhead to Miss Marjorie Kanable, who has spent these years willingly helping everyone who would step into her domain, the Pembroke State college library. 12

In Memory of... Dr. Herbert G. Oxendine Dr. Herbert G. Oxendine was a man With whom I worked With whom I played With whom I prayed. He was a husband — a father — a son He was a Professor — a Dean — a Director He was a citizen — a neighbor and a friend He was a CHRISTIAN and he spoke softly. He loved his family — his community — these plains He loved his church and the COLLEGE He loved his faculty — his friends — this student body And to each he always spoke softly. He respected his colleagues and opinions contrary to his own. He knew not false pride, professional jealously, only humility. He knew only dedication, loyalty, devotion and he spoke softly. He was a leader, always ready to assume responsibility— to give of his time and substance— to take a stand based on his own high sense of conviction, of logic, of justice, and right. He was a leader — he was a man Above all that he was Above all that he did Above all that he wanted to be or do He was a teacher, both in word and action and he spoke softly. Some may think the gentle voice is stilled But I think it speaks, and if we but listen It speaks softly. It speaks to those who were privileged to sit in his classes, in his committee meetings, in his civic clubs, in his faculty meetings and in his church. Yes, the spirit speaks; and, as always it speaks softly. It urges the family that life continues, that the same courage and the same dedication to the high call of service to man and dedication to God contain the answers to life ' s mysteries and perplexities and it speaks softly. It urges this student body to continue striving for that same high excellence which he set as the goal for himself and this COLLEGE and it speaks softly. It urges the faculty to remain dedicated to those loftly ideals and standards of personal and professional conduct that marked his own career and ft speaks softly. It urges this COLLEGE and its leaders to press onward — to grow in service and dedication to the high call of education — to keep the faith that the primary purpose, the primary cause, of this college ' s existence — of every man ' s existence — in the pursuit of truth and It speaks softly. No, the gentle, kind voice is not stilled. It has only joined with those of Madison, Reynolds, Hunter, Stillwell, Elliott, Seymour, Albright and Hammond. With them it now speaks. To them it speaks — of this COLLEGE, of its ALUMNI, of YOU and ME. Together they speak to all of us, and they speak softly. His absence creates a void in his HOME, on this CAMPUS, and in this COMMUNITY. He was a man — a man of courage — a man of Faith — a man of wisdom, kindness, and humility, AND HE SPOKE SOFTLY. President English E. Jones 11
