Not only does it raise the quantitatively oriented questions of Where have we been? and Where are we going? But in addition, in a mutilation of Shakespeare ' s comment upon puns , it could be said to raise the qualitative question of To what has , is_, and will the Indianhead be willing to say its ayes ? The Indianhead is not only the College Yearbook; it is the symbol of the institution. If it were within my command to bring two characteristics to this symbolism , and thus to the institution for which it stands, my choices would be A love of all excellence, and An understanding of the nature of excellence. Pembroke State College will have reached academic maturity when all the members of its com- munity have developed the sensuous keenness and the emotional vigor to rigorously pursue these goals. Through the Eyes of the Indianhead, and through the eyes of each of us, may the inherent values soon be seen. -f Walter J. Bob Mangum The Wesley Fellowship was first organized here on the campus in November, 1940, when Dr. Owens Hands Brown was acting President of Pembroke State College. The first president of the W. F. was Mr. Danford Dial. From this date until the present time the W. F. has been on our campus to promote Christian fellowship and provide social activities for the students. The W. F. takes pride in making and carrying out worth-while activities during the school term. Every year, in order to make these plans , the W. F. and B. S. U. hold a Retreat to co- ordinate the year ' s activities. At the Retreat we all have fellowship and fun and still find time to plan for the coming year. Some of the activities are held jointly, but the individual organization sponsors others. The program of the W. F. varies according to the needs of the students as the program com- mittee sees fit. There are many types of programs including movies, plays, panel discussions and speakers. These programs are planned for student participation. Special events to which the W. F. ' ers look forward are the conferences, college exchange programs, and Christmas caroling. Those attending the programs and conferences come back being spiritually revived and with many new ideas , also, those memories will remain with them through- out life. The Wesley Fellowship with the Methodist Church and other churches of the community are at work on the campus and in the community. The purpose is to help provide the spiritual, moral, and social needs of our students on the campus and to train the students to be better leaders in the community and to take an active part wherever they may be. s«id M™£ t; L h i.TM: i . .r iw n ' , i T tte sampson ' vivian Beeson - second row: joa - l — Grahan,, Miss Marjcrie Kanable, Adviser NettL Mae c!lrk Lucil ' le T r, V TlZ ' HUM ' V ' e a Strl la d - TH ™ OW : Shirley Harold Woods, Billy Ray Deese Lynn Lock ear Co nuTT ' °° dS ' PatSy W WnS ' Pand ° ra Bryant ' BACK R0W - J am ese, Lynn Locklear, Colin Hornsby, Olivia Lowry, Monroe Chavis , Rosa Lee Looklear, Sylvia Beeson, Travis Owen I mm Cvi 66 U 661 U M: OFFICERS FIRST SEMESTER SECOND SEMESTER Harold Turpin PRESIDENT Ronald Tuton Bob Lowry 1ST VICE-PRESIDENT . . . Alpha Phi Omega has taken charge of the campus blood drive, the Easter Seal drive and has accepted many other projects among which are the organization of a col- lege dance band, an exhibition team of Indian dancers , and the suppli- menting of campus social life.
