THE 1953 INDIANHEAD CHARLES W. OXENDINE, JR. Editor ROSA UNA DIAL Assistant Editor ELMER HUNT Student Photographer REESE LOCKLEAR Business Manager THADK OXENDINE Advertising Manager . H, lt PEMBROKE SIME COLLEGE Pembroke, N. C Foreword It has been our wish in compiling this, the 1953 Indianhead, that we might give you an over -all picture of Pembroke State College. With this goal in mind we chose as our theme A Bird ' s-Eye View of P.S.C. It is hoped that the story told in the following pages may fix in your minds the pleasant memories of our life on the College Campus, so that as the span of years that separates us from our college days grows wider, you, in turning the pages of this book, may live again the happy days we spent together as fellow students and friends, and feel anew the inspiration of the P.S.C. Spirit that ever lives in the hearts of all Pembrokers. Dedication In keeping with our desire to express our gratitude to one who has endeared herself to us by reason of having put forth her great untiring effort to make of us greater citizens, not only in our academic life but also in every activity that makes for a happier and a more wholesome tomorrow, we, the Indianhead Staff of 1953, hereby dedicate this yearbook to irirs. WELLONS GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT Life is not just a large number of persons, activities, and things, each one set apart from every other; but, rather, life is made up of all of these things, activities, and persons plus those intangible relationships that help to make a whole out of the many parts. And so in like manner a college is a heterogeneous mass bound together by interacting forces that tend to shape and reshape every individual within. The quality of the whole is determined not only by the quality of the parts, but also by the nature of the re- sponses that are made-in the course of the activities. Whole-hearted activities spiced with genuineness help to build an atmosphere of freedon-i. f We congratulate the members of the staff of the 1953 Indian- head on their originality, thoroughness, initiative, and especially their spirit of self-reliance. 16 MR.
