SENIOR CLASS HISTORY It was in September of 1945 that the first class, containing many returned veterans of World War II, entered Pembroke State College. For some reason there developed an atmosphere of intellectual curi- osity that has never been equalled. Many members of this class were heroes and heroines in baseball and basketball during the freshman year and the years that followed. As is true of all freshmen, they suffered many indignities, but by the end of the year all greenness and freshness had worn off, and they joyously entered the hallowed halls as sophomores. As sophomores, athletic competition was continued and much social activity entered the picture. Active participation in other college activities was common during the second year. With the Junior year came many changes in personnel. Drama- tics were added to the interests of the members of the class. Thus came the play, The Campbells Are Coming and Magenta John- ston captivated the audience with her excellent acting. An occasion al party was held during the year. The high light of the year was the Junior-Senior banquet and reception. The largest and, many say, the best banquet yet. At last the senior year and the long anticipated climax of our col- lege careers. With all its dignity and importance, there have been lighter moments when some underclassman has trampled the dignity of a senior and suffered the wrath of the overlords. Many meetings about rings, programs and all activities that enter into commence- ment time, have occupied our time. Practice Teaching, with all its trials and tribulations has been weathered by most members of our class. It is with pride that we, the largest class yet, pass on the heritage of our college. Good luck, Underclassmen. Onward and Upward. 17
