Un grad- ' uation day in 1913. a sixty-tlirce thou- V sand dollar mortgage was lvurncd. and l'cm-llay could look forward to more extensive improvements. illhc 1'hi1lip's Nlcmorial Gymnasium in 1919. the headmaster's house in 19511, improv ements on the junior School. a new workshop-garage building. drivewayp and tennis court 1952 are among the improvements completed under his guidance. Linder Mr. Peter A. Schwartz. who took oyer the arduous task of leadership in 1953. there have been many' improvements. Thanks to the generosity' of Mr. Raymond B. White. Pembroke-Country' Day' will be able to have its admini tration building remodeled by the end of the 1955-56 school vear. Mr. Wihite has given 585.0011 to the school for its modernization in memory' of his two sons. John Barber Vyihite II. and William Xicholas White. who both attended Pem-Dav during the 1930-s. The administration building will be renamed White Hall in their honor. l'embroke-Country' Day' School has alwavs strived to maintain the highest scholastic standard possible. School records prove that the majority' of the graduates have done exceptionally' well in America's finest colleges and universities. The school is accrediteed bv the North Central Association and other educational groups. Athletics is a major part in campus life. Pem-Day' is an independent school that plays team both the lnter-scholastic and Catholic leagues. ln the athletic field. the school has built and maintained a fine reputation which in the last few years. has included several state championship teams 1n the extracurricular field. there are the two publications. the dramatic. science, photography and glee clubs.
