.Ma fury the school prospered. On graduation day in 19-115, a sixty-three thousand dollar mortgage was hurned, and Pem-Day could look forward to more extensive improvements. Among 'these have been an extension on the dormitory for middle school classrooms, the modern Phillips Memorial Gymnasium, new wings on the lower school building, and finally in 1950 a home for the headmaster was completed. Plans for the future include remodeling the upper school building, new tennis courts, and improved parking facilities. Pembroke-Country Day School has always maintained a high academic standard. One need only look in the records to find that the majority of the graduates have done exception- ally well at the finest colleges and universities in the country. The school has been accredited by the North Central Association, the Missouri State Department of Education, and the Uni- versity of Missouri. Athletics and extra-curricular activities play a major role in campus life. Pem-Day is an independent school playing teams from both the lnter-scholastic and Catholic leagues. ln the athletic field the school has built and main- tained a fine reputation which in the last few years has included several state championship teams. In the extra-curricular field there are the two publications, the dramatic, science, photo- graphy, and glee clubs. Pembroke-Country Day students and faculty are well aware of the great progress that the school has made and that the reputation of being the leading prep school in the Mid-west must be maintained. By offering the finest available educational opportunities, the school feels that its reputation as a leader will con- tinue to grow. Top to bottom: - The familiar white Administration Building, which houses the upper-school facilities of Pembroke-Country Day. Housing the more than adequate athletic facilities, the Phillips Memorial Hall is the culmination of a long range development program. The Schuyler Ashley House provides a home away from home for the many out of town Pem-Day students. Page 7
