for the SCHOOL PLAY were be1ng held Suzy a three act comedy was presented on Thursday and Fr1day ex emngs May 19 and 20 1955 Thls was a dehghtfully fast l1lOX1I1g comedy about Suzy the typlcal Amcrlcan g1rl ss ho became very engrossed 1n entermg contests much to the dlsmay of the ent1re household Romances bud all over the place because of Suzys Jmgle wr1t1ng, even gomg so far as to lnt hard bo1led Uncle George Under the sklllful dlrectlon of Mrs Morrlll, the cast presented two dehghtful even1ngs of enterta1nment In our Junxor year we regarded the JUNIOR PRON1 as our greatest task to accomphsh Closely we xx atched the Autumn and Nl 1nter months fly by then w1th the our Prom Comnnttees After weeks of hard ww ork and plann1ng the b1g day finally arrlved, June 18 1954 All day long the Academy gy mnaslum rang out vuth the sound of hammers and the chat ter of busy and exclted Jun1ors As each plece of decorat1on was put up slowly but surely the scene for the school years most glamorous nlght took shape Our blggest thr1ll came however when there IH front of our eyes we saw not a gy1nnas1um but a beautlful Or1ental Garden complete w1th a lne water fall and pool, cooly cart, and Japanese lanterns The dec oratlons together w1th the soft muslc of ll esley Herr1ck gaxe the gymnaslum an atmosphere of bemg a real garden some vshere deep 1n the Orlent A huge crowd attended and everyone agreed that It was one of the most successful and beaut1fully dec orated Jun1or Prom they had ever wltnessed As the evenlng came to an end tlred but happy Junxors took one last look at the results of all the1r hard team work, for we sadly reahzed that th1s was our first and last Hlgh School Prom But we also came to the rewardmg conclusxon that thls was our crown1ng glory, and that nothxng 1n the future could ever rob us of the wonderful mcmorles of our Junlor Prom U H y Y J v 7 , . c ' V ! y , ! , .. . . . 7 T 1 . . ,. 5 . coming of Spring, we busily set out to appoint v . , . . , . S ranq Wvlth the coming of spring a young mans fancy turns of course to BASEBALL In the second week of April Coach Currier called out his boys for the first practice of the season Anyone remaining after school to watch them practice could easily tell by the players enthusiasm and hustle that the Pem broke Academy Baseball Team would be a strong contender for Class B honors this year P A officially began its 1955 baseball season May 3 by meeting our arch rivals from Penacook High School in a home game opener Although Coach Currier lost four of last years regulars through graduation he nevertheless could count on six veteran let termen from last years team Captain Donald Baillargeon John Bergevin Roy Gilbert Fred Ford Bruce Michiels Richard Renaud The rest of the squad was made up from the four classes with several prom 1s1ng freshmen on the roster With a very full schedule throughout the month of May the entire school looked forward to a most rewarding and enjoyable season of baseball in 1955 The AUSTIN ORIGINAL PRIZE SPEAK ING CONTEST was held Wednesday April 13 1955 1n which all the essays were Written by the person speaking. First prizes went to Fred Lea for his comedy Gin Yummy and to Deborah Taft for her serious monolog Soliloquy. Chris Tahk and Sandra Sheetz received the second prizes, with Sally Little and Bruce Michiels winning the third prizes. On May 13 the gymnasium was gaily and cleverly decorated to resemble a Carnival scene as the Sophomore Class sponsored its MAY BALL. Main attractions were a huge Wheel of Fortune and various pictures of typical Carnival events. Music was furnish- ed by the orchestra of Don Drouin.
