S ranq Wvlth the coming of spring a young mans fancy turns of course to BASEBALL In the second week of April Coach Currier called out his boys for the first practice of the season Anyone remaining after school to watch them practice could easily tell by the players enthusiasm and hustle that the Pem broke Academy Baseball Team would be a strong contender for Class B honors this year P A officially began its 1955 baseball season May 3 by meeting our arch rivals from Penacook High School in a home game opener Although Coach Currier lost four of last years regulars through graduation he nevertheless could count on six veteran let termen from last years team Captain Donald Baillargeon John Bergevin Roy Gilbert Fred Ford Bruce Michiels Richard Renaud The rest of the squad was made up from the four classes with several prom 1s1ng freshmen on the roster With a very full schedule throughout the month of May the entire school looked forward to a most rewarding and enjoyable season of baseball in 1955 The AUSTIN ORIGINAL PRIZE SPEAK ING CONTEST was held Wednesday April 13 1955 1n which all the essays were Written by the person speaking. First prizes went to Fred Lea for his comedy Gin Yummy and to Deborah Taft for her serious monolog Soliloquy. Chris Tahk and Sandra Sheetz received the second prizes, with Sally Little and Bruce Michiels winning the third prizes. On May 13 the gymnasium was gaily and cleverly decorated to resemble a Carnival scene as the Sophomore Class sponsored its MAY BALL. Main attractions were a huge Wheel of Fortune and various pictures of typical Carnival events. Music was furnish- ed by the orchestra of Don Drouin.
