The scene at home and abroad was marred by strife and confusion and there is no doubt that these strains. along with many other unprecedented changes in society made living a more hectic experience for all of us. but especially for the young. There is no doubt either that these phenomena played a part in the process of becoming educated-for better or for worse. Perhaps one of the fringe benefits, as it were. of these influences is the questioning at- titude of our young people today. Although questioning and challenging can be overdone or can even become ridiculous, by-and-large, they are the bench marks of an educated person. Apathy, indifference, and the taking things for granted attitude stem in part from ignorance, lethargy and lack of substantial values. One way to reinforce and to revive waning convictions is to respectfully reexamine our basic value system and l feel most of you are doing that. There is good evidence that many of you have stabilized at a higher level of humanity because of your searching spirits and this angers well for you. your children and for a country founded on basic human striving. Our founding fathers challenged the system and gave birth to a great country. May all of you bring your creative energies to bear in a similar manner so that posterity will look back in gratitude and admiration. Let it be said that humaness was at its best 1:4 CU G Q-t 'Ill U 0 E 'Sc .E E -LI .x. E E XX ,f during this generation.
