Cladd .Hia tory Uwe have crossed the bay, but the sea lies beyond There were fifty one who boarded the ship to start across the bay we chose Robert Shantz, Captain, Sebastian LaTocha, lst Mate, Mari lyn McGarey, 2nd Mate, and Janet Spencley, 3rd Mate Avis Mummert was Student Council representative and Mrs.Reimann was our adviser On October the 13th all were on deck for the Freshmen Initiation As we all survived the initiation, the Sophomores treated us to a weiner roast after school at Lincoln Park on the 20th In the middle of the year David Nichols was elected president as Robert Shantz moved away As money making projects for the year, we sold fudge during class meetings, and sold refreshments at some of the basketball and foot ball games when we again entered the ship for our Sophomore year, we real ized that only forty six of us had returned For our leaders we chose Lee Archer, Captain, John Romanik, lst Mate, Audrey Campbell, 2nd Mate, Wayne Spray, 3rd Mate Arlene Spierling and Avis Mummert were chosen to represent the Sophomore Class in Student Council Mrs Reimann was chosen as our advlser We initiated the Freshmen on September 28, and on October ll we had a movie and served refreshments at the Gym in return for the vigorous initiation We also challenged them to a tug of war across Yaple River This was the starting of another tradition in basketball game The Amateur Show was the big event of the year for us It was held on March 30 and was a tremendous success We held a smelt fry at the Quonset Het on April 28 It was then we reallzed that the waves could be rough on the bay We were now half way across the bay, but there were only forty of us left As our guiding ones, we elected Lee Archer, Captain, John Romanik, lst Nate, Audrey Campbell, 2nd Mate, Joanne Buskirk, 3rd Mate John Romanik was elected to serve on the council with Arlene Spierling and Avis Mummert Mrs Reimann and Mr Pagel were our advisers de realized that this was going to be a busy year The first event was the Junior Carnival which was held on October 19 Our rlngs arrived November 13 Again the waves beat against us as we were about to launch our Junior Play, 'The Peaceful Inn ' It was postponed indefinitely Pg r 1 ll P. Sala ia tory Good evening faculty members, members of the board of education, parents, fellow students, and friends W the members of the senior class of '53 bid you welcome Our class chose the motto 'we have crossed the bay, but the sea lies beyondn As we reach the mouth of the bay with the sea beyond, we pause to look back over the years that have brought us to this momentous occasion Most of our lives we as students have been preparing ourselves to be ab e to sail forward toward the next lap in our Journey of life when we were freshmen, lit tle did we know just exactly what we would choose for our career As our schooling progressed, each of us in turn gave more thought to what he or she wanted out of life The opportunities that have been given us have been many and varied so that each of us might choose the kind and type of ife's work that suited our indiv idual needs Many helping hands have been extended toward us Some of them we have taken eagerly Others we have taken but not so eagerly, in our attempt to find what we fel was the right way for us Our lives, like the bay, have been sheltered from the storms when we reach the sea, the waves and the cur ready to meet whatever is ahead whether it be a gentle breeze or a hurricane we wish to thank each one of you for your help, kindness, and thoughtfulness in helping us to chart our course Now that we have reached the bay, each of us will probably chart the course a little differently,although the journey on which we are about to embark is toward the same landing success We hope that in the years to come the faith that you have shown in us will be justified Now as we reach the parting of the ways, there is lit tle left to say except Goodbye dear friends Good luck and Bon Voyage, graduates Joyce Smith Pg El . e rent will be stronger. We enjoyed the Junior Senior Banquet at the Par-M Club on May 27 The J Hop was held at the Gym the following Thursday This con cluded our activities for the Junior year Yes' now we are Seniors There were thirty eight of us present as we started the last part of the voyage on the bay The guiding ones were Fred Ball, Captain, Carol Hierholzer, lst Mate Audrey Campbell, 2nd Mate, Joanne Buskirk, 3rd Mate Arlene Sp erling, Avis Mummert, Jayne Spray, and John Romanik were the Senior rep resentatives to the council Mrs Reimann and Mr McClutchey were our advisors On September 23, everyone tried to look his best Our Senior pic tures were to be taken The proofs arrived on October 1, and the pictures were delivered November ll We sold candy bars and held programs during the noon hour Our Senior Play was given April 10 The Junior Senior Banquet and J Hop were held the last of May Baccalaureate and Class Night came the first of June Soon each of us, with diplomas in hand, will enter the Sea the Sea of Life Our experiences here on the bay will help us face the waves of the Sea iiigk Clay frophecy Ship ahoy mates' We're crossing the great Sycamore in our S S Anchora and in my mighty telescope,as I look back across the waves, I see mme old matesn splashin' around Yes, it was just ten years ago that they drifted from our port to other seafarin' destinations As I stand looking through my glass, out across the wide spaces, I see Nme old matesu living up to their expectations Here, take a look for yourself Joan Buskirk Trying to be the first person to go over Niagara Falls in a balloon Joyce Smith Secretary to the King of France Arlene Spierling The wife of a prosperous Air Force Captain Lois Spencley Modeling latest fashions for Lane Bryant Ps Thl - 1 - e ..
