'Uale zclorg It is an honor, a privilege, and a pleasure to stand before you tonight as Valedictorian of he class of 53 I am sure that any member of our class would perience my difficulty in trying to express equately our appreciation of and affection for those who labored with us so patiently in these halls of learning Ah, yes, they were great teach ers! Not only in an academic sense, but in their sympathic understanding of our personal problems They taught us, by precept and example, much that could never be put between the covers of books think we can catalogue the qualities they bestowed only by saying that they managed somehow to imbue us with the Spirit of Learning a reverent regard for the traditions of our nation, the rights of man and the fundamental decencies of life us, Uwe have crossed the bay, but the s a lies be yondu, becomes a reality to us tonight The water in the bay was calm Our lives were planned, to some extent, for us But tonight we have crossed the bay and are facing the sea life Things will not run as smoothly now We are on our own, but this need not discourage us America is a land of opportunity Tonight marks the end of formal education for some of us, but it need not be the end of our learning High school is just a stepping stone to something higher As the evening draws to a close, we realize that our high school days are over We wish to thank our fellow students, for having made these past years some of the happiest moments of our lives, our teachers and parents who have made it possible for us to have been here, and our many friends for all they have done to help us through the trials of life Now on behalf of our entire class, I bid you one and all a fond farewell Joanne Buskirk PgT cl' t UI ll. ex- ad- . Sala ia tory Good evening faculty members, members of the board of education, parents, fellow students, and friends W the members of the senior class of '53 bid you welcome Our class chose the motto 'we have crossed the bay, but the sea lies beyondn As we reach the mouth of the bay with the sea beyond, we pause to look back over the years that have brought us to this momentous occasion Most of our lives we as students have been preparing ourselves to be ab e to sail forward toward the next lap in our Journey of life when we were freshmen, lit tle did we know just exactly what we would choose for our career As our schooling progressed, each of us in turn gave more thought to what he or she wanted out of life The opportunities that have been given us have been many and varied so that each of us might choose the kind and type of ife's work that suited our indiv idual needs Many helping hands have been extended toward us Some of them we have taken eagerly Others we have taken but not so eagerly, in our attempt to find what we fel was the right way for us Our lives, like the bay, have been sheltered from the storms when we reach the sea, the waves and the cur ready to meet whatever is ahead whether it be a gentle breeze or a hurricane we wish to thank each one of you for your help, kindness, and thoughtfulness in helping us to chart our course Now that we have reached the bay, each of us will probably chart the course a little differently,although the journey on which we are about to embark is toward the same landing success We hope that in the years to come the faith that you have shown in us will be justified Now as we reach the parting of the ways, there is lit tle left to say except Goodbye dear friends Good luck and Bon Voyage, graduates Joyce Smith Pg El . e rent will be stronger.
