No band was ever more determined than the 1967-68 PELL HIGH MARCHING BAND! The group began practice without a director, then in late August, Frank Landreth, a former Pell High student and a music major at Jacksonville State University, agreed to direct until he had to leave for the Armed Services. Then John Slovensky, the science teacher, met with and helped the band. But these students did the MAIN job. They planned their half-time and parade performances and they practiced untiringly and with determina- tion. They did so well that they were invited to perform at Ragland High School's Homecoming and they performed at Band Day at ISU, and they didn't miss any school event when the services of the band were needed .
