Steve O'Brien with a take-down Herb Wischnack works for a fall Bobby Brown wrestles hard Captains: Thao Ho, Steve O’Brien, and David Seifert The 1987-88 Wrestling team's goal was to get 1 or 2 people to state competition; accoring to Coach Fox at midseason, that goal could be real- ized. David Seifert achieved 60 career wins in Janu- ary. Barring injury, the coaches are looking for Steve O'Brien to make 80 wins by districts or regions and Thao Ho to get 60 wins by regions. Team strengths were Son Nguyen at 105, Dave Seifert at 119, Thao Ho at 126, and Steve O'Brien at 185. Heip Nguyen's injury caused a loss to the team both in terms of a good wrestler lost and an emo- tional setback to other team members. According to Head Coach Harold Holt, the team is 2 people short of being a successful team. At 1987 state competition, Phu Ha won 2 match- es and tied for 7th place. ■16 Wrestling

The girls, competing in team competition, placed 5th in the State Class A Tournament. Rhonda Gilbertson, Danielle Johnson, and Nadine Schleske also qualified for individual state competition in 1987. Nadine Schleske's beam competition placed 4th at State. The 87-88 season proved to be a coach's nightmare with 4 of the 9 state team members not able to return to competition due to back problems, stated Coach Kelting. Dec 8. .
