The team improved their record from 6-4 to 9-2 this year. Their goal at the beginning of the season was to make it to the dome in state playoffs. During the season they had a great deal of fun and developed more respect for their coaches. Disappointment came when they lost to Breckenridge in the section 8 playoff game. The 1987 football team has already earned the pride and respect of their fellow team- mates and community and will certainly be remem- bered as one of the best teams Pelican Rapids has seen in a long time. David Seifert achieved 60 career wins in Janu- ary. Barring injury, the coaches are looking for Steve O'Brien to make 80 wins by districts or regions and Thao Ho to get 60 wins by regions. Team strengths were Son Nguyen at 105, Dave Seifert at 119, Thao Ho at 126, and Steve O'Brien at 185. Heip Nguyen's injury caused a loss to the team both in terms of a good wrestler lost and an emo- tional setback to other team members. According to Head Coach Harold Holt, the team is 2 people short of being a successful team. After week upon week of selling can- dy bars and notepad holders, and begging for donations, their dreams of going to Chicago finally came true. On the way, the choir was scheduled to do concerts in Underwood, Battle Lake, and Osakis. The bus arrived in Chicago Saturday afternoon. From the lobby, the Ameri- cana Congress looked luxurious; there were, however, some disappoint- ments. While in Chicago, students toured the Adler Planetarium, the Field Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Sears Tower. Choir members also had a river- boat ride. The Letterwinners promote student interest in sports and try to encourage good sports- manship throughout the school. Leadership among Letterwinners is evident both in and out of athletic events. Letterwinners sell snacks in the concession stand at home games as well as buttons during Homcom- ing week. The profit from these sales is used to purchase the orange and black banners that decorate the gym and equipment needed to im- prove the athletic facilities. Officers: Row 1: Pres. Nadine Schleske. But I just found it on the floor. It is enclosed with ninety-eight. I'm sorry it's a month too late. I said I'd sent the rest myself. These ten were lying on a shelf. The pages sent as six and seven, I'd like to change to ten and eleven. That is unless they're already done. In that case make it ninety-one. Please send page twelve and thirteen back, I should have made those two girls' track. Instead I sent girls' volleyball. And that can't go in there at all I had it planned wrong, that's the thing I plumb forgot it came in Spring. I'm sorry all our stuff was late. Could that affect delivery date? It has been ten years since I've been in high school. When I look back, it seems like high school was more than ten years ago, but in a way, it seems just like yesterday. I'm so nervous. I wonder how much everyone has changed. Often, I have tried to imagine what has happened between then and now . . . Did Heather Burke ever reach that eternally elusive height of five feet? Will Troy Huseby and Dylan Berg continue to wear a handkerchief on their heads? Will Steve O'Brien shave stripes on any other area of his body in addition to his head? Does Darla Bengston still wear blinding banana-yellow outfits? Has Lesa Rude ever gone three months without spraining or breaking a limb? Did Heidi Neff and Daniel Johnson continue making a habit of driving into parked vehicles? What unnatural color has Derrick Aly's hair become? Is David Seifert still throwing Communist and Facsist accusations at the drop of a hat? On the surface, our class appeared to be just like any other class. We all were a bit scared the first day of school. When we were young, we all were all in love with school, but we eventually became less enthusiastic. We went on a few trips: Minneapolis, Florida, and Chicago. We had various teams compete at State. We had a fabulous senior year, and we finally graduated. If you looked below the surface, however, you would have seen an individual and memorable class. What made our class memorable? All of the people and personalities did. Our class was intelligent, ambitious, close-knit, and very friendly. In addition, we had sone very funny people and moments: James Anderson's diet of worms in elementary school, Cindy Freeze's pregnancy caused by being hit in the arm, and dozens of funny skits in speech class. Although the events were important, it was the people who made the Class of 1988 stand out from the crowd. 70 Class History SENIOR BESTS MOODIEST: Brenda Haugrud, Tara Hurst, Derrick Aly, Bri- an Melkert ROWDIEST: Jeanne Marty, Debbie Nellermoe, Eric Hatle, Dan Tibbetts STRANGEST LAUGH : Heather Burke, Debbie Nellermoe, Derrick Aly, David Seifert NICEST WALK:Michelle Jacobson,Nicole Ohman, Dylan Berg, Troy Huseby MOST UNUSUAL:Darla Bengtson, Debbie Nellermoe, Der- rick Aly, Jim Anderson NEATEST CAR:Kathy Fitzpatrick, Kelli Lewis, Thao Ho, Bri- an Lahlum NICEST SMILE:Heidi Neff, Nicole Ohman, Jason Henning, Troy Huseby GIGGLIEST:Heather Burke, Kris Lewis, Derrick Aly, Rick Peterson FRIENDLIEST:Heather Burke, Nicole Ohman, Jason Hen- ning, Alan Martinson NOISIEST:Rhonda Gilbertson, Jeanne Marty, Eric Hatle, Dan Tibbetts QUIETEST:Kathy Grossman, Julie Kjos, Thinh Ha, Mike Habedank NEATEST NAME:Maria Christina Carrillo, Laura Elena Lounasheimo, Dylan Douglas Berg, Quentin Christopher Conklin Brenda Haugrud, Brian Melkert, Derrick Aly, Tara Hurst Thao Ho, Brian Lahlum, Kelli Lewis, Kathy Fitzpatrick SHORTEST:Heather Burke, Tammy Svare, Thao Ho, David Seifert MOST ARTISTIC: Michelle Jacobson, Kelli Lewis, Paul Schmidt, Alan Okke MOST SCHOOL SPIRITED: Rhonda Gilbertson, Becky Paulson, Troy Huseby, Alan Martinson NEATEST HAIR: Michelle Russ, Nicole Ohman, Troy Hu- seby, Steve O'Brien PRETTIEST EYES: Heather Burke, Nicole Ohman, Mark St. John, Dylan Berg BEST DRESSED: Kelli Lewis, Nicole Ohman, Eric Miller, Troy Huseby BEST LOOKING: Nicole Ohman, Teresa Carlson, Dylan Berg, Troy Huseby BEST SENSE OF HUMOR: Mary Lu Dutcher, Heather Burke, Jason Henning, Jason McMillen MOST LIKELY TO BECOME A MILLIONAIRE: Camilla Bongers, Kelli Lewis, Eric Miller, Troy Huseby MOST GULLIBLE: Kathy Fitzpatrick, Heidi Neff, Jason Hen- ning, Mark St. John DRIFTIEST: Kathy Fitzpatrick, Darla Bengtson, Steve O'Brien, Richard Ahrndt Nadine Schleske, Derrick Aly, Eric Miller (N.P. Becky St. John built up sus- pense galore before finally crowning Teresa Carlson as the new queen. Homecoming festivities continued throughout the week with twin day, grub day, athletic day, and color day. The Sen- iors beat the Juniors in the annual powder- puff football game, while the Volleyball team lost its games to Dilworth and Rothsay. So laugh, and sing, all hearts be gay, recall, remember, each past school day. Let us pause from our dancing, remember the past. This poem adequately describes the feeling of May 1, 1987. The junior class had spent many long hours in preparation for this event from the magazine drive to the finishing touches on the dance floor. The evening began at Trinity with a turkey dinner. James Anderson, Kelley Maahs.and Heidi Neff sang Heaven in your Eyes ; they were accompanied by Mr. Dean Aamodt. Cami Bongers was Master of Ceremonies. Mf. Jim Fletcher, our guest speaker, presented a program about the antics of our senior class. Later that night as we participated in the Grand March which was emceed by sophomores Jennifer Tims and Brian Maasjo. Then we listened to the music of Stickman, formerly the Phones in the gym decorated in blues and silver. After the dance many seniors, juniors, and guests had fun at the post-prom party. These are our memories of Prom '87 Heaven in your Eyes. When plans of the production were an- nounced, the halls buzzed with the excited talk of Greasers, Pink ladies and the 50's. Anticipation was high during tryouts held in Mrs. Erickson's room. There was much speculation as to who would portray Sandy, Danny, Kenickie, and Rizzo. Tensions rose until finally the cast list was posted and rehearsals could begin. Many long hours were spent working hard to make it an enjoyable, entertaining production. When it came time to perform the Matinee for the High School, the cast finally realized that the long hours and hard work had paid off. The matinee, however, was just the be- ginning of their success. The production continued to go on in front of sell-out crowds throughout its three day run in the Fine Arts Auditorium. And special friends I used to know. The camping trips and softball games. The lonely times and longing dreams. The Sunday Church and Tarzan show. Childhood seems so long ago. Some other world I used to know. Some other ocean's ebb and flow Until the family albums show: Some sad and sensitive boy — With a space between his teeth — Staring at me. — James Kavanaugh from Will You Be My Friend?
