e “Shadows Of Zhe Night’’ After many months of planning, ordering and praying, our week of work finally came. We all thought the pomping was a never ending effort but it sure looked great when it was all done. When all was through we had transformed the gym into a truly beautiful outdoor terrace which only enhanced The Shadows of the Night. Mr. Fletcher gave us one speech we will never forget. How could we have made it through the week without his three R's. . . Respect, Responsibility, and Reliability? The Banquet at Trinity Church would have never seemed quite right without the humorous jokes of our M.C. Mike Lewis. Risa Westergard, accompanied by Dean Aamondt, did a great job singing our theme song Shadows of the Night. Despite the fact that it was Friday the 13th, everything turned out to be great and everyone had a truly beautiful evening. May 13th will always be a night to remember and cherish. “Prom 19S3 4 5 Queat Risa Homecoming Kogalty Row 1: Matthew Nordstrom, Jessica Grefsrud, Row 2: Julie Walkin, Sandy Miller, Patti Dillon, Queen Risa Westergard, Carol Hexum, Cheryl Strom, Row 3: Gary Haugrud, Bert Moen, Peter Larson, Dave Sher- brooke, Pat Westby, Row 4: Brian Jenson, Jorg Fasig, Mike Forsgren. The week began Monday morning, Sept. 26. Everyone looked so spiffy for our annual dress-up day. That evening was the coronation. The tension grew as the mc's. Dean Hunter and Tracy Sundblad read off the chosen candidates. Risa Westergard, Carol Hexum and Karen Moen. Karen was hospitalized and couldn't attend the coronation, we all sure did miss her. Our speaker, A1 Siegle, gave us a few words of advice. As the evening progressed, Risa Westergard was crowned homecoming queen and led the student body through the rest of the week. Tuesday and Wednesday were set off by ''60 s day and grub and hat day. Thursday was athletic day followed by the volleyball game and the bonfire in the evening. Friday was a day in itself. Color day and the pep fest showed the spirit of our school preparing for the game. That night our Viking players had one thing on their mind, being victorious ! They did just that by defeating the Frazee Hornets 34-14. The wonderful week of homecoming '83-84 came to an end as the alumni, classmates and guests danced to the music of Jessica . o yesterday is already a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision but today! well-lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Even now, in our senior year, we find it hard to believe that we won't be walking through these halls next year. When we look back we can see how fast the time flew by. Thirteen years is a long time to be together and that time has been full of memories. We remember. . . Kindergarten, the beginning point for the Class of '84, the old white building . . . new playground. . . bubble gum in 5th 6th grade. . . bombardiment. . . 6th grade trip to the cities. . our first day in High School . . . jr. high sochops. . . homecoming floats. . . senior high... dances with bands... driver's li- censes. . . getting the car to go out. . . class rings. . . junior class magazine drive. . . 1983 District champs in basketball... band and vocal contests... speech competitions. . . our fantastic Prom, planning, pomp- ing, making the balcony work, and then the Big Dance ... Finally. . . Seniors. .. senior pictures. . . senior bests.. . Shada.. . homecoming week, Queen Risa, powder puff (oh well), bonfire, our victory in the game (34-14), the dance, Perkins. . . band trips to tour- naments and a Minnesota Gophers Game. . . choir and Blessing, Glory, Wisdom, and Thanks .. . trying to sneak pop into the study hall at noon. . . our sweet- hearts .. . final exams. . . Viking Pride. . . and then. . . June 1984... Now as we go to continue our lives, we look back on these memories and smile. We want to thank everyone who helped make these such memorable years but now we are ready to go onto the future. The present day has no value for me except as the eve of tomorrow. It is the morrow that my spirit wrestles. (Some Kind of Year) Our Viking Football Players had their ups and downs - First off losing a game to Dilworth and then coming back and defeating their next two opponets, Hawley and Crosby Ironton, finally falling to Staples, left them at 2-2 non-conference play. The first conference game was Homecoming, where they defeated Frazee 34-14. As the season went on the Vikings were defeated their last 3 conference games, losing to Breckenridge, Barns- ville and Perham. Leaving them with a 1-3 record in conference play and 3-5 overall. 42 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE - '83-84 Aug. 16 - Practice Begins Aug. 27 - Scrimmage at Detroit Lakes..............There Sep. 2 - Dilworth...........There Sep. 9 - Hawley .............Here Sep. 16 - Crosby-Ironton ....Here Sep. 23 - Staples .......... All Conference: Julie Walkin, Cheryl Strom Our 1983 volleyball season was a successful one. We came out with a winning record of 9-7. We accom- plished a goal that the PR volleyball teams have been trying to reach for six years and that was to win a tournament game. We did this by winning our first trophy and banner for the Sub-District title. We couldn't have gotten there without Ryan and his gang! We want to thank everyone for all the support they gave us in both our victories and defeats. We're all fired up for next year's season and plan to work hard and practice this summer. Our goal next year is to increase our winning record and go even farther in tournaments than this year. Steph, thanks for everything and we'll miss you lots! Well, win they did but unfortunately it still ended their regular season schedule with more losses. Many things made this season memorable such as the phase Don't depend on someone else, do it yourself, cause if you don't, someone else will. , the words me , you , ball , and last but not least the stripping tease act in the G-F locker rooms. The success of the 1983-84 boys basketball team was brought about by hard work, dedication, and most of all team work. The determina- tion of the team and Coach Haugen provided for many exciting games for the spectator. Seniors who led the team were Pat Westby, John Erickson, Steve Huseby, Tony Hu- seby, Peter Larson, Peter Wohler, and Craig Haugrud. Each of these members helped to make the 1983- 84 season eventful. The wrestler's mind is a complex mind capable of making many decisions. Should 1 eat this? Which move should I use? How can I make my- self better? These are many of the questions a wrestler asks himself. These questions may not sound important to you but to a wrestler they are very important. The teams record as of now is 3-1-1 hopefully to be improved upon. The wrestling team also has won the Alpha tournament for the fifth time with six champions, one second, one third, and three fifths. The team wrestleo very well as a whole scoring a record for team points. Let's keep it up for a good season!! si The start of the season was a real challenge as most of the young gymnasts had not previously seen a lot of action during meets. However, they proved that they were capable of winning despite their age. They completed a successful season and are all looking forward to an even more rewarding season next year. Ms. Gohdes and Deb Ardolf made each practice a little bit more interesting and fun, with a variety of workouts, especially the 10K., which everyone barely sur- vived. Kristy Haugen and Mary Devine led the way throughout the whole season with their enthusi- asm and hard work. Tina Forsberg went to Regions in the 800 and 400m. as an 8th grader! Ann Kimm also went to Regions in the 1 mile. The girls had a great season and next year will be even better! Row 1: Asst. Coach Deb Ardolf, Head Coach Ki Gohdes, Asst. Coach Harold Holt. You get the Spectator , full of each month's highlights, senior interviews, the latest in athle- tic events, lots of food for thought, and much more. Meeting the deadlines were not always easy, but with Mrs. Pawlowski's advice and encouragement we were always able to get it done.
