GYMNASTICS STAYS FOR ANOTHER YEAR Because of the hiring of a new gymnastics coach, Nancy Johnson, gymnasti cs was her for another year. The team’s high spirit, and sense of dedi- cation kept the team rolling through the 1982-1983 sport’s season. Leading the Vikings during the year were the captians, who were also the only seniors on the squad this year, Valerie Martinson, and Deby Hovland. A MEW SEASON Giving the team a fresh start, the wrestlers gained a new coach, Harold Holt, who used to wrestle for the Mighty Vick- ings while in high school. The wrestling year started out a great one with a 5-0 record, and was second only to Barnesville in the Wauben Invitational. Then the wrestling team was struck by injuries, and dropped to a 6-3 record later in the season. Some of the wrestlers have hopes of continuing on into Region and State competitions. J westling 25

Row 1: Stacec Zierke, Susan Haugrud, Coach James Handorff, Row 2: John Handorff, Kurt Engebretson, John Erickson, Jeff Hagen HOPEFUL SEASON The 1982 Golf season was filled with a lot of fun times together with many serious moments. In the HOL tournament the boys finished with the second place title. At the Dis- tricts the boys were second only to Perham, and John Handorff won the playoff to advance to the Re- gions. Captain for the boys team for the 1983 season will be Mike Evenson. For the girls in the 1982 season, Susan Haugrud finished second in the HOL tournament, which was held in Pelican Rapids. Both teams hope to have a fun filled, successful season. golf 27
