HOPEFUL SEASON The Volleyball girls went into their season with confidence and high hopes to be the best they could be. They showed that hard work and desire could pay off as the girls won 11 of their 16 matches. The captains leading the tough Viking team were Zaundra Bina and Pam Rudie. The talents of Pam were seldom on display, due to a dislocat- ed shoulder, though she greatly inspired the team from the bench. Voted to the All-Conference team were Zaundra Bina and Jean Moen. 22-Volleyball

FOLLOW THE BOUNCING BALL If you ever stopped in at open gym last summer, you would have found numerous basketball players working twice a week anticipating a pressure-filled season. Their hopes were to be- come the best? Having a successful season, their dedication to basketball has paid off. As the season progressed, the excite- ment continually grew more intense. This excitement was caused by such close rivalry among four teams: The Barnsville Trojans, Frazee Hornets, Perham Yellowjackets, and of course the Pelican Rapids Vikings. As of February 24th, the season was nearly completed, and the district standings were released. We were seated third, competing against our biggest Rivalry, Nov. 24 Breckenridge Jamboree Away 27 Pelican Rapids Jamboree Home Dec. 1 Fergus FalIs Jamboree Away 4 Fergus Falls Home 11 Wheaton Away 18 Dil worth Away Jan. 12 Barnesville Home 15 Rothsay Away 19 Perham Home 22 Frazee Away 26 Hawley Home 29 Glydon-Felton Home Feb. 2 Dilworth Home 5 Barnesville Away 12 Perham Away 16 Frazee Home 19 Hawley Away 26 Underwood Home 27 Battle Lake Away Mar. 2 Ulen-Hitterdal Home Barnsville, in our first game of tournaments. Due to deadlines, we were unable to cover the final results of the season games or the District 23 tournaments. We are confident, however, that a great amount of effort was put forth. A unique aspect of the team was that there were no captains leading the 1981-82 squad. Leadership was provided by five seniors, who all served as captains in one sense or another: Orin Follingstad, Mark Kowalski, Barry Osborne, John Samuelson, and Dave Sather. The dedication, excitement, and uniqueness of this year’s bas- ketball team will influence the goals of future Vikings. 24-Boys Basketball
