Text from Pages 1 - 96 of the 1968 volume:

Miration We, the class of '68, dedicate our '68 Shada to a man of outstanding personality who guided us through our high school years. —To a man who has successfully attempted to in- crease school spirit by his example, who brightens our day with his cheerful disposition, and whose guiding hand, friendly smile, en- couraging words, and constant support, have given us a desire to learn, —for this, we dedi- cate our Shada to-------Mr. Philip Fauteck. 2 Though we leave in sorrow All the joys we've known, We will face tomorrow Knowing we'll never be alone. The ivy walls are far behind No matter where our path may wind We'll remember always-- GRADUATION DAY. rmnrta Although he's left us He is not forgotten, For his memory lingers on. The hours we shared Throughout the years, Were filled with joys and fun, and times which we look back on. Now all that we have are our fond memories of you, Keith, and these we cherish as time goes on. 4 eo ms MS 70KSW0KD The 1968 Shada captures and portrays the life of the students of P. R. H. S. Included therein are the memories: That extra-special teacher, those lunch- room buddies, the nut across from you in studyhall, that wonderful Prom, those smashing plays,------and graduation. Those are the memories that we can't forget nor would we want to forget them. This is our school life and our memories of 1968. Finally after endless hours of hard work, and preparation, we, together, have achieved our goal—the '68 SHADA. I would like to extend my thanks to all of you—staff, advisor, and everyone who has helped to make this yearbook a reality. A special thanks to you Carolyne, I don't know how I could have edited this without you. You can throw away that messy carbon paper and those 3-R forms now! Pauline, you certainly did your job well—you kept us out of the hole, and managed our money well. Joey, thanks so much for all those pictures and all the time you spent developing them; a job well done. I promise no more pictures, no enlarging or re- ducing. As for you, Betty and Sandy, I hope you can take the bandages off your fingers soon. Your hours of typing are certainly appreciated. Thanks also to you Denny for your artistic endeavors. I realize die hours you put in on all that artwork and those headlines. Thanks. For die past eight months the '68 SHADA has been entrusted to us; now I present it to you. Boys from all over the state met for one week to form the imaginary fifty-first state- Boy's State of which Jerry was a citizen. Jerry said that this experience made the functions of the government more easily understood: that it was fun, rewarding, and an experience he will probably never forget. Jerry Ness 27 ecass Mjszony Soon the doors of P. R. H. S. will close for the last time and as we go out we will take with us the memories of our high school days. Now, as Seniors, the class of '68, we can look back over the past four years—and all that remains are memories. Yes, we have come a long way. But stop! Let's take a moment to glance back through the past four yeare so crowded with the memories of our school life — some of the best and most rewarding years of our lives. To get our class off on die right foot, we as freshmen elected able leaders: Pres. Alan Davis; Vice Pres. Rick Toso; Sec. Geri Leabo; Treas. Darla Kratzke, and Mike Erickson for Student Council; to help us when die going wasn't so good. Our Homecoming float complimented the theme and even if it didn't win a prize, we certainly had a lot of fun working on it. Our summer vacation quickly ended and we proceeded onward as sophomores. Widi our Sophomore year came new responsibilities, activities, and priviliges. As our leaders we chose: Pres. Greg Johnson; Vice Pres. Bonnie Nelson; Sec. Connie Rieman; Treas. Pete Larson; and to represent us in the Student Council we elected Pauline Jenson. One of our privileges was to have attendants in the Royal Court for die '66 Homecoming festivities. Linda Sorum, and Nancy Bredahl escorted by Jerry Ness and Pete Larson were chosen as our Sophomore attendants and escorts. Soon the school year came to a close and with eager anticipation we awaited our Junior Year. We entered P. R.H. S. in the fall of sixty-seven as eager and ambitious Juniors with a busy and exciting year ahead of us. Led by Pauline Jenson, Jim Weiss, Jerry Ness, Rainer Lokken, and Pete Larson, we put all our efforts into the magazine drive which broke all previous records Attending Queen Shirley at the Homecoming coronation were Linda Sorum excorted by Rick Toso and Nancy Bredahl escorted by Peter Larson. In the spring we presented our successful class play, Seventeendi Summer, directed by Mr. Me lb ye and Anne Johnson. Then our efforts were concentrated on our Prom and Banquet for which we chose the theme, Three Coins in the Fountain. This event brought to an end another rewarding year. Three Coins In A Fountain was the theme chosen for this special social occasion for which the Juniors spent months of planning and days of hard work. Streamers of yellow, blue, green, and orchid adorned the gym which was changed into a lush spring garden, highlighted by a fountain into which coins were tossed as wishes became realities. For the Juniors and Seniors this is a memory which will linger in their hearts forever. Bonfire pepfest sparks enthusiasm and V symbolizes up-coming victory. ftomeco Majesty, splendor, excite- ment,--these words truly describe the '67 Homecoming festivities. As we look back across the year this is one event which we Seniors certainly cannot fcrget. That float, those ballots we cast for at- tendants and Queen, the bonfire pepfest, the coronation, parade, game, and dance, — yes, all these are now fond memories. Hearts throbbed as the proces- sional began, we sat in anxious anticipation as Queen Linda was crowned, and later triumphantly watched the parade in which the Senior float won first place. 42 Homecoming Royalty--Rick T. , Peter L. , Loren S. , Larry J. , Nancy B. , Queen Linda S. , Rachael K. , Lynn K. , Mark S. The story illustrated typical incidents in the life of the March family during the 1800's--the growing-up of the four girls-- Meg, Jo, Amy, and Beth. Mr. Famey BRIGADOON is the story of two hunters, Tommy Albright and Jeff Douglas, who lose their way while visiting in Scot- land. Accidentally they came upon the mysterious town, Brigadoon, that appeared only one day every centruy. Tommy (Rainer Lokken) falls in love with Fiona (Vicki Aar- ness) a village girl and at the end of the day is confronted with a decision about staying with Fiona forever or leaving Brigadoon that day. Tommy chooses to leave but later after being haunted by the memories of Fiona and Brigadoon for four months, he returns with Jeff (Wayne Bakken) to see if Brigadoon has really disappeared, or if what he experienced was a dream. When they arrive at the site of the vanished village, the friends part and Tommy is accepted into the village. A band of 31 and 28 chorus members along with a cast of 16 worked hard and long to create this outstanding production. An industrious staff also labored unselfishly to make two successful performances possible. MUSIC eONCSKZ KAJW As a number of Seniors look back over the past years one of the fondest memories is the hours spent practi- cing and performing in band. Unlike many schools, P. R. H. S. places a tremendous emphasis on instrumental music, and, under the able direction of Mr. J. Couture, the band has excelled in this field. The first major event which concerned the band was Homecoming, in which they played at the coronation marched in the parade and presented the half-time show centered around the theme- It's A Mod, Mod, World! Later on they sold candy to increase their treasury to make their band trips possible. Concerts were next and then pepfests and providing half-time music for the basketball games. Hours of practice went into preparation for solo and ensembles contests and into the numbers for the Winter Concert. The Spring Concert was also a smashing success. These are the many memories of concert band, none of which will be easily forgotten. PIC. Is ROW Is S. Lyons, S. Johnson, S. Johnson, L. Seifert, J. Lammers. ROW 2: A. Newhall, C. Femling, P.
