MEDITATION Today seemed to be a perfect one for me until I walked into English class. Write an essay, he said. Now that doesnit seem like too great a demand until I try to think of a topic. A million thoughts race through my mind. What can I write about? Oh, I know. I'll write about windows. He suggested that topic in class. How shall I start? . . . Through windows we gaze into the outside world. . . . No, that doesn't make much sense. Suppose you are already outside? . . . Through windows we gaze into the inside world .... That wonit do because Ill have the same problem I started with. Maybe I ought to think of an- other sublect What do colors mean to you? Now what kind of essay would that be? What do colors mean to anyone? They re just well colors pigments hues I d better start another one Breakfast at our house is my favorite time of the day This would never be accepted I remember writing about breakfast once when I was ln the third grade It was my first A Boy did I have fun in third gra Look at me' Ive gotten completely off the track Let me see I need a topic for an essay Ill bet Mom can think of a good one No hers are always too mtellec tual She probably wouldnt be able to think of one anyway She never can when Im really desperate There has got to be something I could write about I wonder what time it is I must have already spent an hour simply try mg to find a subject for my essay Maybe I ought to call Dottie to relieve myself of some of this tension I know what I could write about' My topic will be On Using the Telephone How shall I start? How does one go about writing on a subyect that everyone knows about? Perhaps I should choose an abstract subyect ove What is love? To me it s the softest breeze of springtime a golden sun set a silver moon Oh thats too much like poetry besides its too mushy Nobody would understand Oh why didnt I think of this before' I could write about all my thoughts as I search for a topic I could call it Meditation or something silly like that Finally I can get down to conscientious work Today seemed to be a perfect one for me until I walked into English class , T-T-1 Marcia Martin 9 . . . . v . . This year Kathy Skinner broke a long-standing record and became the first girl president in a long time. Her efficient leadership has proved a tremendous asset. The student council has recently had much more power in governing the student body. It demonstrated its ability in the remarkable way it handled such issues as the cafeteria problem and the smoking problem. It set up boundaries for smokers and a student court for the judgment of the offenders. The council, composed of homeroom presidents, met every Tuesday afternoon to settle issues and plan activities that were in popular demand. Among the various undertakings of the G.O. were the various G.O. dances, the senior tea, the financing of the Sock and Buskin plays, the amateur show, and the various other activities. Most of its income was derived from the sale of GO. membership cards, the annual magazine drive, and the sale of tickets at football and basketball games. This money is used for the benefit of the entire senior high for school publications, the support of sports and non-sports clubs, and the various social activities, 124-Miss Taylor, grade 11 Nir Roberts grade 11 05 XI Cannaxa grade 11 234-Dr. Bolster, grade 11 K! 5 .-A 231-Mr. Lynch, grade 11 64 208-Miss Kirkpatrick, grade 11 an 937 Mxss Shea grade 11 224 Mr Gangael grade 11 A Nir XVmter, grade 10 65 A 'Q lk fy i I ef, e 1 ' A 6 ei 1 109 M165 Davls grade 10 76 Mr Reynolds grade 10 135 Mr Stratton grade 10 ' l' lx 1 u I I ' tat N 0 I I , 1 a V si 1y,.'4 x, ,f-1 , . 3 A K' J v u ' 11 u, w . Unhampered by illness against Bronxville the Pels showed their real strength and beat their old rivals 64-51 as Pete Zambernardi scored a season high total of thirty points. The first team, led by Susan Pastore as captain, had an undefeated season and succeeded in breaking Chappaqua's three-year winning streak. The second team was less fortunate in tying only one game and losing twog however, it was represented by an outstanding player, Ann DeNisco, who, along with Mary Mathewson, Susan Pastore, and Ellen Cuddy, was chosen for the first team Stuyvesant. Barbara Elliot, another squad member, made second team Stuyvesant. Third team,s season was rather successful, it won two games and lost one. The fourth team, composed mostly of sophomores, was undefeated, showing promise for the future. At the close of the hockey season, our inventory showed that, although the outcome was not one of complete victory in the sense of scores, it most cer- tainly was in the sense of team spirit and sportsmanship. All four teams are greatly indebted to Miss Marion Phillips for her wonderful leadership and skillful coaching. 5 ZX. olleyball ThlS veqrs xollexblll honor squlds under the duectron of Nllss inet G6gglS hid 1 fqulv successful sefason Pelhflm ended up bv wmnmq sex en games out of the twelxe Wh1Ch were pl IN ed H11el1 YV1rfielel md he-1 first teqm were undefeflted Wlth the scores of 40 '76 md 31 70 lg unst F1GldSt0ll 38 24 1gllllSt Elstchester and 35 26 agqmst Bronxvllle Seeouel teqm wlth Demse Xiililllllg is mptuu h ld onlx one loss The seores of thelr two glmes xxlth Flelelstou were 37 77 md 37 74 Thev belt Flst ehester 33 74 hut rn the 1r fin 11 gune lgunst lironxxllle thev lost 33 -if Pat Sh mlev 'md Qarohu Hewson exptuns of thlrd mel foul th teams respectn elx e ln not hoist of Crux mms but thev ehd hfne xerx elose- scores The scores of thlrel team were 34 66 fig unst E Istehe ster and 36 39 lgfunst Bronxxdle Fourth team lost to Ffrstehester '39 43 and to Bronxvllle 39 43 A41 A -5 3? The girls worked under difficult conditions because the band, with which they are closely connected, had just been taken over by Mr. Polera this year. Re- freshments were served at the end of each meeting. in , 5 gnnr . The highlights of the club were the trips to New York where the group dined in French cafes before seeing a French movie or play. The former gave the members a good chance to try out their French on the waiters. This club was always interesting and enjoyed by all. French Iournalism Several times each year, many French stu- dents have been seen reading newspapers with the title Miroir Memorialv on the front page. This is the French paper which is published by the journalistic section of the French Club. The edi- tor, Roberta Alexander, the advisor, Mr. john Winter, and the reporters have put much time and effort into putting out this paper. The paper contains a variety of interesting items. For instance, there is always news of the alumni, Ci et La, which is miscellaneous, Le Hire fthe laughj and two articles concerning boys' and girls' sports. Then too, there are always two or three articles of important occurrences in the school. 93 The 1na111 purpose of th1s vears Affliitelll R tCll0 Club s dCtlV1tlSS was to prepare the y'Oll11gCl lT16ITllJ6lS for the11 unlteur operators hcenses led bv Austm Hook Presldent and several We ek ln the statlon at the back of the Physlcs Lab Amateur Rad1o Club A lughhght of th1s years curr1c11lum was the Held tr1p to the Radlo Relay League 111 COI1I16Ctl cut ACCOmp3I1l6d bv M1 Reynolds thelr adv1so1 the boys toured the Leagues Museum ind lab the hcensed club members ran the radlo statlon there German Club This year the German Club had 1 verv lnter estmg program Under the SLIPCTVISIOD of MISS Ursula Klrkpatrlclt 1nd wlth the help of the club s officers Ann VVllSOll presldent Sonya Harms v1ce pres1dent ohn Kanel treasurer md Ted Thompson secret nv such thmgs as readmg Gex man comedles havlng guest speakers and partles and S6611 g VATIOUS German Hlms were all accom pllshed The enthuslasm thls veal was wonderful and lt 1S hoped that lt Wlll be surpassed next year -at 4 71 1 , X Q- 2 tr . 11 T 1 f ' 'T' . 0 . , K 8 .L 3' 'li .
