Unique to the East Campus complex are its facilities for the future. Designed to handle 2,000 students, movable walls insure adaptability to growth. The locker area, lo- cated at the front entrance, is in one conv , xi 3nt spot, and may be easily expanded. Air conditioning insure= adapta- tion to twelve months usage. Eight teaching stations are available in the new gym- nasium with space provided for a future swimming pool. A seating capacity of 3600 is provided with easy expan- sion accommodations . ' r 5,000. The small theatre places emphasis upon drama produc- tion rather than use as un auditorium. A student lounge and si. ' tck bar provide areas for student relaxation. The 1963-64 school year realized Pekin ' s educational dream. In May, 1962, steps were first taken towards this dream when the Illinois Consulting Service met with the school board to establish community needs. A sub-committee located a pos- sible school site, and contractors, Foley, Hackler, Thompson, and Lee drew up preliminary SDecifications. Citizens of district 303 voted upon and accepted the referendum. Construction of the new building progressed smoothly w-th- out major delays, so that by September. 1963, the East Campus was ready for use. The new East Campus consists of four main buildings — ' A building houses the gymnasium, physical education, and ath- letic facilities; B building accommodates the administrative offices, theater, and cafeteria.
