Unlvefszfy' of Wzsccrzwri Substitute Teacher RQ 'H-iN f Senior As we seniors bid farewell to PCHS, our thoughts recall the first days when we were guided by our big brothers and sisters, the seniors. The social life of our class was intro- duced by our first big affair, the Frosh-Soph Party. Many of us were soon caught in the whirlpool of extra curricular activities which ' ' B s' Club, Student Coun- included Girls Club, oy cil, and other activities of our choice. The junior year found us head over heels in work for the prom, but we felt well re- warded for our efforts, when on the big night we walked into a new world of Moonlight and Roses. What a transformation took place. Two hundred little boys and girls grew to adulthood in one night. Student Council election topped off a very inted speeches busy year. Posters were pa , made, and finally the new Student Council Class President was elected and everyone settled back for a few weeks of normal school activity. Although we were constantly on the jump the first three years, the last one was the big- gest and the busiest. We were then the big brothers and sisters leading the Freshmen through a memorable year of trials and tribu- lations. Measuring for caps and gowns, order- ing invitations, and having pictures taken duation with all its turned our thoughts to gra mony. National Honor Society pomp and cere members were especially proud to walk down the troddened path for their diplomas with gold ' last social affair tassels atop their caps, Our ' ' ' ' then came baccalaureate was the senior picnic, and graduation. Our four years have been wonderful ones ' ' but still we are and we are sad in leaving, ' t our vocational or college looking forward o ' d ith wisdom and joy l' and a future fille w ' ' d s in PCHS. ife which started with our first few ay Senior Class Officers Harold Pete Brown Vice President Chuck Reid President 44182 .iw xx . Howard was a quiet and unassuming person, but was sincerely liked by all who knew him. His enthusiasm in basketball and good sportsmanship should be an incentive to all. Although he was with us only a short time, his simple and friendly Way will long be remembered. S? The short but happy life on earth of one of Pekin high's sophomores came to an end on October 20, 1951, as Leah Rae Simon passed from this world into eternal life. Leah possessed the willingness and capability to accomplish any task set before her and was a friend to everyone she met. She was the first to give help, the last to take credit. Chinks Cop State Diamond Crown FIRST INTERSCHOLASTIC STATE CHAMPIONSHIP COMES TO PEKIN VIA 1951 BASEBALL SQUAD Booming bats, solid pitching, and strong Winning spirit brought Pekinla firzat interascholtzistic state championship home to roost in l95l, as Harry Anderson's diamondeerrs--with :superlative tournament play--took the state baseball trophy, Following a none-too-imprefvziive regular sea- son which saw the riiarnonfi Chinks i:o.:t ti 9-6 mark, Pekin carrie back with a brilliant .zpurt of tournament play to knock off all other con- tenders for the crown. Closest match of the state tournament for the Chinks came in the opening round, when they ekod out an 8-7 win over Streator, with Glen Phillips holding down the mound chores: all the way, Second-baseman Rich Lee and catcher Dick Heihs provided the opening round spark, rapping cut four and three hits, respec- tively. Lee doubled in the winning run in the seventh inning, and one of Dicks blows was c round-tripper. Tom Trumpy was the man of the hour in the semi-finals, taking the mound to hurl the tour- naments best-pitched ball game. The lanky southpaw limited Decatur to but two hits, passed only one, and sent ten Red batsmen down with three strikes. The Chinks, marvelous on offense throughout the tourney, came through with a pair of twin killings in the semi-final perfor- mance. e Q Pekin, fired up and ready to roll, clinched the tournament championship in the initial frame of the title game, scoring eight runs in that inning before going on to win, ll-5, over Alton. Don Lee took credit for the final win, hurling the first six innings, holding the Alton nine hit- less for four consecutive innings. Dick l-leihs, Pete Berardi, and Glen Phillips, who finished the pitching duties in the final game, each slammed out a pair of hits. Generations ago, Westw.1rd Ho! was the cry. Today, newer, bigger frontiers have opened up . . . east . . . west . . . north . . . south . . . everywhere! But human characteristics have not changed: now, as then, the man with knowfhow, ambition and the willftofwork, wins! True, geographic boundaries no longer identify a frontier. Yours may be in medicine . . . industry . . . agriculture . . . research . . . a business of your own! How can you recognize your frontiers? Take a tip from the pioneers, They saw their frontier as a challenge to overcome obstacles . . . they knew that an honest day's work brought them an honest day's return. They found that freedom . . . happiness . . . peace . . . wealth . . . the right to be somebody, had to be earned . . . and were well worth earning! Choose a worthy frontier for your goal. Then, be willing to work as hard for it as did your forefathers. On the other side of your frontier is success. Bon voyage! Bradley, as one of America's strong nledium- sized universities, combines the advantages of the very large university' with the personal at- tention provided by smaller colleges. Dr. Ralph McDonald, chief of the division of higher edu. cation. National Education Association., recently stated, Bradley has the highest accredited rating that an institution can achieve in the Ifnited States. Extra curricular activities at Bradley surpass those of all but the very largest universities. Bradley has more than a hundred clubs, soror- itics, and fraternities catering to a wide range of interests. Bradley University offers over 1000 courses in over 60 areas of study. Its free lecture arts series is not surpassed in any University in the United States. The University is accredited by all the major accrediting agencies. Under thc new Bradley Plan, a student is given the opportunity to eomhine his regular college education with military training in the University's Air ROTC.
