Class H1story In September 1955 the largest group of green freshmen ex er to enter the doors of Pek1n H1gh took he1r place as part of the d1gn1f1ed gatherlng known as the Pek1nH1gh School Student Body IA e totaled s1xty s1x 1n number W1th the help of our sponsors Mrs Hand and Mr Martln we elected our class off1cers as follows Dresldent Mary Helen Ham1lton V1ce Pres1dent J1mm1e Tempel Secretary Dale Weller and Treasurer Donnle Voyles For both of our class partles we went to the Salem Drne In We began another year ln September 1956 as eager sophomores Lead1ng and help1ng us th1s year were Mrs Hand and Mr Martm Thrrteen students fa11ed to return but three Jorned g1x1ng us a total of 1fty s1x students Those res1gn1ng were Mary Allen Dax 1d Axson Mary and Martha Cox George Fleenor Albert and Charles K1ng Larry Lewellyn Davrd Marshall Anlta Mlller Darrell Myers Larry Nzchols and Warren Trueblood Those Jomrng us were Barbara Mae Brown Ferby Johnson and Llnda Montgomery We chose as our leaders thrs year Presldent J1mm1e Tempel V1ce Pres1dent Gene Klrtley Secre ary Donnle Voyles and Treasurer Burl H1bbs Our dar1ng mob went to Burns Hollow Park and then to the Salem theatre on our f1rst semester class party Second semester we agaln went to Burns Hollow Park and then back to the gym for a party In September 1957 we re entered Pekln H1gh for our Jumor year We were a l1ttle smarter a l1ttle ore mature and a whole lot brax er We had f1fty three loyal members st1ll w1th us Those leaung us h1s year were Rom1lda Albertson Robert Nale Betty Stand1ford and Robert Wr1ght Jo1n1ng us were Rus sell G1lstrap and W1lbur Key We started th1s year w1th Mrs N1cholson and Mr Mart1n as our sponsors Mrs Nlcholson became nd was unable to be w1th us for the remamder of the year and Mr Thompson took ox er Mrs Nale took I r Martln s place when he had to be absent a few days for an operatlon Leadlng us th1s busy year were Presldent .Terry Maudlln V1ce Presldent W1lma Martln Secretary I 1chard Warren llater replaced by Russell Gllstrapl and Treasurer .T1rnm1e Tempel We declded to spend our money w1sely th1s year and go to the Kentucky State Falr on our flrst semester lass party We went to Sprmg M111 State Park for our second party The JUDIOIS topped all records on the magaz1ne sale th1s year by selllng S1597 43 Mary I-lam1lton and We chose Thelma Mart1n and Jon Thompson to represent us as cand1dates for the .Tumor Semor Carn nal Thelma was elected Some of our money makmg projects th1s year were selhng scarfs pen and penc1l sets and candy We planned the Junlor Semor Receptlon th1s year The Junlors took the senlors to Lou1sx1lle to eat at Blue Boar We also saw Brldge on the Rn er Kwa1 at Unlted Artlsts Because of the perslstent efforts of Mr Hudklns we frnally chose our class colors motto flower etc ur motto was 'Don't Itch for Success Scratch for lt Our colors were blue and wh1te and our class lower a wh1te carnat1on We also wrote our class constrtutlon We entered the doors of Pekln I-hgh School for our last year of learmng Mr Martln and Mr Mots1nger came through as our sponsors thls year We began the year w1th 42 members Those w1thdrawn from the class were Wanda Baker Don Gray ames Hamby B1lly Kn1ght Jumor Norr1s Wayne Scaggs Betty Swartz and Jerry Terrell .lO1l'l1I1g us was lbert K1ng Those leadlng us for our last year were Pres1dent Rlchard Warren VICE Pres1dent Dale Flemmg llater replaced by Burl H1bbsl Secretary J1mm1e Tempel and Treasurer Jon Thompson Among our money mak1ng projects th1s year were f1sh fry bake sale selllng p1ns pepper and xanllla nd Leader ads On our f1rst semester class party we went to the Kentucky State Fa1r Our second semester class arty was our tr1p to Washmgton D C Of course ex eryone had a wonderful t1me We xoted to change our class motto to God Helps Those Who Help Themselx es W1lma Martm was chosen alternate cheerleader th1s year Dean Gray won the safe dr1x1ng Road e o at Salem lndlana He topped all others for two years to walk n w1th top honors Although we are leaung Pekm H1gh we hope we can all further our educat1on and l11e up to the e pons1b1l1t1es that w1ll be handed to us 1n l1fe We say Thanks to the teachers parents and other m erested people 1n the commumty for helplng us through the rough years of our h1gh school career Although e haxe receu ed our d1plomas we are hes1tant to leaxe the school that has sheltered us for four years I111S has been the most 1mportant four years 1n our lu es There 1sn't enough room to put 1n exeryth1ng hat has made the four years at l3ek1n somethlng we shall always remember We also say our specral hanks to Mrs Hrlton for her help and pat1ence 1n br1ng1ng th1s yearbook to you I I I 7 l 4 . . . t .
