OUR SCHOOL LIFE Four long years ago on a September mormng forty two green' freshmen enrolled ID P H S for the1r frrst t1me Our sponsors were Mrs I-hlton and Mr Gable We elected the followmg off1cers Pres1dent Jack Hollrah V1ce Pres1dent Karen Mar shall Secretary Jean B1erly and Treasurer V1ctor1a Surnner who was later re placed by Conme Smlth We had two class part1es one each semester For the fn-st we went skatmg at the local r1nk and for the second we attended a show 1n Lou1sv1lle To us lt seemed l1ke a long tlresome walk to graduatlon day but our determlnatlon was strong When we returned our sophomore year we were fewer 1n number but Just as determmed to succeed We knew though we were more confxdent of ourselves that we had not as we had ant1c1pated nearly f1lled our empty bra1ns w1th knowledge the f1rst year There were only thxrty two of us left Those w1thdraw1ng were Glen Applegate Nora Balent1ne Darlene Burkhart Dellat1ne Collwell Delores Dunn Judy Garrett Jay I-Iortenberry Ruth Stewart and Vlctorla Sumner Mr Gable also left us and Mr PattersonJo1ned Mrs H1lton 1n see1ng us through hlgh school Th1s year we chose the followmg off1cers Pres1dent Jean B1erly V1ce Presxdent Charles Mull1ns Sec retary Barbara Campbell and Treasurer Maxlne Roberts We chose green and whxte as our class colors and whlte carnat1ons as our flower W1th another year before us we came back to P H S Our long walk was becommg shorter as we entered school as Juruors that fall Our enrollment aga1n took another plunge We lost Harold Baker Luc1lle Baker Dav1d Blankenbaker Barbara Emery Betty Goss and Donald Lewellyn We ga1ned B1lly Heathcock As our sponsors W chose Mrs Hxlton and our new pr1nc1pal Mr Hudk1ns We carefully selected our of f1cers th1s year They were as follows Pres1dent Barbara Campbell V1ce Presxdent Maxlne Roberts Secretary Judy Ooley and Treasurer Dorothy Wr1ght We declded that th1s was really our year to shxne F1rst of all we chose a class motto The h1gher we cl1mb the broader the v1ew Our magazme sales were a great success They totaled Sl 556 30 toppmg all other prevxous sales The class recexved a plaque for selhng over S1500 Some of our projects were sellmg Chrxstmas r1bbon barb b q txckets frumt cakes van1lla pepper and cake to the students at noon Our b1ggest money mak1ng pro-yects were tak1ng charge of Ju.n1or sales and a class play Us G1rls To brlng to a close th1s wonderful year we took the sen1ors to the New Albany Leglon Hall for dlnner and then to see 'The Ten Commandments ln Loulsvxlle The year of all years came at last' After three years of hard work we were enter 1ng our sen1or year w1th the realxzatxon that th1s would be our last year together We started out w1th twenty s1x members gaxmng Ruth Stewart Wayne Butler and Barney Schocke We lost Ernestxne Wells We were happy to fmd our sponsors Mrs I-hlton and Mr Hudkms wa1t1ng for us The followlng were our off1cers Presldent Dorothy Wr1ght V1ce Pres1dent Ruth Stewart Secretary Roberta Coats and Treasurer Betty Lew1s We contr1buted to the basketball season th1s year by havmg Barbara Campbell as one of the cheer leaders Bxlly Marshall Charles Mull1ns and Jack I-Iollrah on the f1rst team and James Montgomery as student manager The f1rst semester we celebrated bexng together agaxn by attendxng the Kentucky State Fa1r Of course the last semester our long awaxted trxp became a reallty and we left for Wash1ngton D C on May 13 We returned home Saturday after four event ful days Durzng the next few days we prepared for graduatxon exerc1ses On Frlday mght May Z3 we concluded our long walk as we assembled 1n the gym for our d1plomas Our class wh1ch had worked as an effect1ve un1t for four years was f1nally d1v1ded We know that th1s IS not necessanly the end of our educatxon We shall str1ve to use the tools wh1ch we acqu1red from our past schoolmg to cultlvate ourselves 1nto the men and women of tomorrow We w1sh to thank those who have had the courage and pat1ence to see us through to ra1se us up when we had fallen and to encourage us on when we had faltered Each person must now go hxs own way to f1nd h1s or her place 1n th1s world Thls merely surnmarxzes our many memor1es It cannot begln to express our deep feelmgs for our fr1ends and we can never forget those fr1ends or the wonderful txmes we have had at P H S ' - ll I I . . . . . . .
