To him who dedicated his life That ours would better be-- We dedicate our annual now To his beloved memory. DEDICATION The Senior class of 1956 has dedicated their yearbook, The Commentator, to a person, who in their opinion is very de- serving of this honor, Dr. W. L. Green. Words are inadequate to describe our feelings, butamong them are gratitude, idealness, helpfulness, and friendship. He was a comforter, a healer, a Christian, a guardian, and a leader. Besides all these, there were national, state, and local honors bestowed upon him. With all these accomplish- ments, Dr. Green was still an associate and friend of the poor and rich. We want his family and friends to know that we appreciate, not just the fact that he brought many of us into the world, cured and cared for us, but just knowing him left us with a feeling of deep satisfaction. 9 Our leader, our doctor, our friend His services with the year has gone SUPERINTENDENT HERSCHEL C. BAKER, B.A., M.A. Mathematics , School Adminis - tration, Indiana University. School is agreat and unique com- munity whe re students live ,work and play. There is laughter, tears, loneliness, triumph and defeat. All of which blend together to mould character. Acharacter of greatness or dishonor according to the adjust- ments that are made to the many problems and experiences which we encounter daily at school and at home. Yes, students blend into groups, formal and informal, congenial and indifferent, uninteresting and pro- fitable. An exchange takes place, a reciprocal give and take, always striving for that ultimate goal, the diploma. In this great endeavor we seek knowledge and happiness. Our in- terests are challenged. WE COME FOR THAT DIPLOMA, BUT GET MUCH MORE. PRINCIPAL WILLIAM O. MARTIN, B.A. M.S. Mathematics, Canterbury Col- lege, Indiana University After four years of effort, you have attained one of the goals of your youth. While to you this may seem to be quite a peak of attainment, it is merely the beginning of greater tasks thatface you. The way youmeetthese tasks will be dependent on the efforts put forth and the attitudes developed during the four years just past. May youlook forward with confidence and proceedwithfirm steps to the meet- ing of the tasks before you. 5 A ri,4'N .XA K' F3 l gnu ', . sa 'li f ' 4 I lim r ' ' Charles C. Rickard, Loren E. JUNIOR CLASS The Junior's chose as their motto, Go Little by Little, But Never Turn Back, they also chose blue and white as their colors, and blue and white carnations as their flowers. The Juniors started with a lot of responsibilities, but plenty of energy and enthusiasm to carry them out. First of these responsibilities was the management of their consessions of ice cream and soft drinks. The Junior play, The Campbells Are Coming , was a hilarious, as well as a successful comedy. They feel that their most successful project was the magazine sales with S1,4'73.8'7. which was higher than any previous magazine sales. David Naugle topped all other individual salesmen. The Juniors and Seniors sponsored the Junior-Senior Carnival, which was also a success. The crowning of the basketball queen. sponsored by the Juniors, was one of their proudest achievements, because the queen was one from their own class. Rose Gray. Other projects for this year which proved successful was a bake sale. selling tickets for a barbecue supper. cedar chest raffle, sponsoring the Invitational Tourney consessions and programs. and preparing a Christmas supper for Cauble's Hatchery, Inc. The success of these projects made possible the Junior-Senior Reception. which was one of the best ever. This has been a very successful year for the Juniors. but they are looking forward to their Senior year with all anxiety.
