D. A. R. Good Citizenship Winner County and State Mrs. Frederick Batt Ginger Baker Mrs. Reed Boggs County Chairman Regent Senior Honors Most Seniors are proud of the record they made during their high school career, but we are exceedingly proud of ours, for we have gotten a few honors which we challenge other classes to equal or excel. Ginger Baker received the county award of the D. A. R. Good Citizenship committee and was also judged state winner for which she received a one hundred dollar bond and a D. A. R. sterling silver spoon. Our class has had four out of the first five basketball players and the first substitute, Von Marshall, Oscar Mindel, Willis Kay, Robert Pickerill, and Carroll Motsinger. Von Marshall won all the 1952 sports awards, freethrow, sportsmanship, and most valuable player trophies. Oscar Mindel won the freethrow award and Robert Pickerill won the sportsmanship trophy in 1953. Other basket- ball awards: Robert Pickerill--a sweater, three chevrons, three letters, and a star, Roy Tichenor-- a sweater, two letters, and two chevrons, Willis Kay--a sweater, three chevrons, and a letter, Oscar Mindel--a sweater, two letters and three chevrons, Von Marshall--a sweater, three letters. four chevrons, and a star, Carroll Motsinger--a jacket, a letter, and a chevron. Dale Morris as Student Manager received a jacket. two chevrons, and a letter. Those receiving scholarship pins: Glenda Sifers--three years, Ginger Baker--four years, Shirley Hall--four years, Carolyn Green--four years, Anna Sue jones--one year, Willis Kay--one year. For one year the perfect attendance awards are as follows: Opal Curtis, Shirley Powell, Anna Sue jones, Mary Lou Rose, Larry Ooley, Roy Tichenor, and Shirley Hall. For two years are Oscar Mindel and Von Marshall, For three years Dale Morris received awards. Those receiving gifts for having three year membership in the Sunshine Club follow: Glenda Sifers, Ginger Baker, Shirley Hall, and Opal Curtis. Those who have received pins for typing speed are as follows: Glenda Sifers--50 word pin, Ginger Baker--40, 50, 60, word pins, Shirley Hall--40, 50 word pins, Mary Motsinger--50 word pin, Carroll Motsinger--50 word pin. The persons who have received band awards are as follows: one letter and three chevrons-- Glenda Sifers, Shirley Hall, and Opal Curtis, one letter and four chevrons--Ginger Baker. Those receiving pins for working on the Comment Staff are Ginger Baker, Shirley Hall, Opal Curtis, Carolyn Green, Shirley Powell, Anna Sue jones, Mary Motsinger, Mary Lou Rose, Lew Blankenbaker, and Willis Kay. The persons receiving pins for work done on the Commentator are as follows: Glenda Sifers, Ginger Baker, Shirley Hall, Carolyn Green, Mary Motsinger, Larry Ooley, Lew Blankenbaker, Robert Pickerill, Roy Tichenor, and Willis Kay. ' Ginger Baker and Glenda Sifers received a letter and a chevron for a year of cheerleading. Those who received a letter and numerals in G. A. A. are as follows: Glenda Sifers, Ginger Baker, joyce Ann Wright, Mary Motsinger, and Mary Lou Rose. Another goal we have reached which is not to be considered an honor but of which we are proud is the amount of money our class has made during our high school career for it has enabled us to go by Eastern Air Lines to Washington on our Senior trip.

THE STORY People do change and Papa Metzger is no exception. Their home in Milltown, Pa., was a pleasant, even-tem- pered household with the usual unconsequential family flares until Papa Metzger became a Shop Steward of his union at the mill. Sudden power and authority stretches his ego and Papa reaches far beyond his height. Illusions of his self-importance and duty to his union gradually estrange him from his wife, Carrie, and his three daughters, Beth, Ann and jenny, ranging in ages 15, 18 and 20 re- spectively, until Papa assumes the proportions of Dictator Dad. His first fall from grace in his family's eyes is the forgetting of his daughters' birthdays. They take this with- out a quiverg but when Papa begins to blow a whistle and has his family line up and wait on him like a retinue of flunkies, a rebellion is in the making. The crowning inci- dent that causes the family to about-face is his unforgivable offense of forgetting his Twenty-Fifth Wedding Anni- versary. It is then that Mama Metzger fCarriej makes her great decision. If Papa can have a union in the shop, she can have a union in the home. To strengthen her echelon she not only drafts her daughters into her union but conscripts her daughters' boy friends as wellg and Jenny's boy friend happens to be a young lawyer who is acting as an arbitrator in behalf of the owner of the mill. Even Precious Jenkins, who does housework for housewives when the urge hits her, suddenly finds herself involved in Mama's little union. But Papa remains adamant until Carrie strategically maneuvers her big push to bring Papa back into the family bosom. Her banner for the fray hung in the living room announces in large letters her battle slogan, PAPER PLATES FOR PAPA. Carrie knows when to attack and where it will hurt the most and Papa finds himself no match for a homemade union. Paper Plates or Papa Cast of Characters Papa William Metzger ....
