Class Hzstory Twelve years ago, the Senior Class of '47, or most of it, walked through the doors of various school buildings and for the first time optimistically demanded an education. Of the first graders who start- ed alt Pekin in 1935. only tive-Carroll Ferguson, Shirey Graves, Laura Jane Green, Blll Hein and Betty Martin, have completed their entire tv.elve years in the Pekin schools. The rest of the present Senior Class has j..ined the group either in the grades cr in high school. We started our high school career with an enrollment of thirty-four eager fresh- men, brimming with that naive self-assur- ance that only freshmen possess. We had a lot less of it after initiation. However, we recovered in time to enjoy two parties during the year, assisted by our sponsor, Mr. Erle Oldridge. Bud Voyles was presi- dent, Robert Churchman, vice presidentg Wayne fM-cCoskey, secretary and Carroll Ferguson treasurer, and Bill fHein, news reporter. Both the .girls and 'boys partici- pated in Convocation Prograr-s put on by the Physical Education Classes. Ruth Robinson entered this year and attended P. H. S. a short while. We entered our Sophomore year with thirty-four enrolledg Robert Chfurchernan dropped out, and Charles Clark moved away. William Underwood entered this year. Our sponsor 'this year wzs Mr. Mor- gan, and our officers were as follows: Carroll Ferguson, presidentg Betty Feiock, vice-president: Shirley Graves, secretary and treasurer, Fred Fisher and Juanita Morris, reporters. Naturally, we knew all the answers, and realizing this Mr. Mor- gan gave a Quiz Program for his Convo- cation, in which all the Class participated. We donated substantially to lthe War Bond Drive sponsored by the School, and assist- ed in purchasing a sound projector. With this machine we had the pleasure of a picture almost every week, consisting ol various instructional and education-al films as well as those for run. Everyone lived through two class panties. When we came to school as Juniors with an enrollment of thirty-two, we missed Fred Fisher, Ruth Robinson, William Un- derwood, and Frances Vest. We :ret two new merfzers, Richard Jackson and Juan- ita Tucker. Our Junior year was a year of steady activity under our Officers, Pres. Basil Gray, Vice President, Juanita lvlor- risg Secretary, Carroll Ferguson, Treasur- er, Laura Jane Green, and Reporter, Bettie Marshall. Upon returning to school in September 1945, we found a new roorn in the Home Ec Department, and prompt- ly took over and increased the sales of ice cream and drinks at noon hour from this morn. The Class divided into teams and waged a terrific campaign for the sale of magazines for the Curtis Publishing Com- pany. Our sales topped the records up to ithat time, and netted a profit for 'dhe Class treasury. Our play, Calamity Kids , broke all previous ticket sales rec- ords, and was conceded by all to have teen successful. Plans were made for the Junior and Senior Reception, and we took the Senior and laculty to the Junior ballroom of the Seelbach Hotel for dinner, and aftenwwards all attended a show, The Ziegfield Fol- lies, at Loew's Theatre. All our activities were pursued with the help of our Jrunior sponsors. Hvlfrs. Herthel and Miss Johnson. Those dropping out our Junior year were Norman Gray, Erhman Pixley, and Rich- ard Jackson. Our Senior year, which began with an enrollment of twenty-seven, has been a 'blL1SY one. This year we missed Bonnie Sullivan and Joe Cooley. Three Senior
