THREE EU ll'l1 YEARS 1950 remember, seniors-how we waited for the mailman at the beginning of september to find assigned hr's . . . called friends, pooled knowl- edge about where rooms were located . . . which teacher? . . . later found calculations wrong, for most part . . . first assembly when conspicuous we were scared to death mr w would ask us to stand . . . at first glimpse mr W seemed strict . . . later found out he was quite a nice guy . . . care- fully made-out schedules, listened goggle-eyed to all rules hr teacher emphasized . . . cautiously braved way thru crammed corridors, became ac- customed to shoving . . . subjects not so bad as expected . . . studied a lot in beginning-much shivering, quaking in boots while teacher issued report cards . . . over-confident next quarter, didn't study half as much . . . no need to recall results! . . . thrilling moment--to hear band for first time at booster campaign rally . . . got a card and orange button-first year of booster campaign . . . also notorious 'ldetention hall in- stituted . . . joined clubs . . . classmates elected to s s a, had cafeteria in stitches from crazy out- Hts they wore . . . big sister patty well worth fuss upperclassmen made over little sisters . . . gala christmas spectacle . . . vinnie elected class prez . . . didn't have much choice about junior schedules . . . few friends began worrying about colleges already . . . end of year rolled around. . . exams, exams already . . . some nervous, some not . . . didn,t prove too bad . . . few got prizes . . . some sophs played in orchestra for commence- ment exercises . . . couldn't realize why everyone was sort of sad 1951 climbed another rung . . . made more friends, suddenly began to receive recognition from others in school . . . vinnie elected prexy again . . . class proud when, after bitter fight, he was only candidate elected from two major parties . . . third party surprised everyone . . . american history proved rough as predicted . . . football team didn't do very well . . . talk of junior rings . . . struggled long time to save money . . . some girls acquired two . . . much worrying but junior prom Went over with a bang-mardi gras theme . . . lucky few elected to honor society . . . second may festival soon a memory . . . studies suddenly became important . . . tryouts held for yearbook staff . . . dreaded history exams left kids exhausted . . . life ahead seemed bleak without our senior friends 1952 top rung finally reached . . . more re- sponsibility than expected . . . piles of college catalogs accumulated . . . more and more activities . . . another fiery campaign . . . vinnie again on top . . . everyone saw red for few days after senior hats came . . . arrived on day of senior play seventeenth summer . . . mike bottas elected to head class . . . seniors became yogis for year- book pictures . . . last senior football season soon over . . . down-right proud of team . . . senior prom did class justice-largest turnout in history to snow white theme . . . after long wait, seniors swapped senior cards . . . memory-laden wash- ington trip followed . . . basketball season drew to final close for seniors . . . college worries . . . college boards made some doubtful . . . kiddies day brought year to an end . . . finals ended it . . . one last fling at nostalgic commencement dance . . . class night-awards to outstanding classmates . . . sang class song . . . found eyes a little dewy . . . rehearsal in old attire . . . then, final performance . . . hectic last moments of looking in mirror to first strains of pomp and circumstance . . . hadn't sounded so sad at rehearsal . . . walked down aisle with wobbling knees . . . didn't trip after all . . . listened to speeches and classmates, arise for last time . . . name called out . . . at last, that precious docu- ment-that seal of approval-our diploma! . . . then sadness again, tho it Wasn't the end-just the beginning.
