MISS BAKER presents SPANISH CLUB Preridevzl, MADLYN VOLKMANN Vice-Prefidedzt, ROBERT MORLEY Secrcmry-7'rea.r11rer. DOLORES GAMBINO This act was set in a South American atmosphere with the Spanish language coming vividly to life. In one scene Miss Ruth MacDuFf gave an enjoyable performance when she described our South American neighbors to the cast. Letters from Spanish girls and boys added authenticity to the Spanish setting of the act. Another highlight of this act was the Spanish Club Christmas party. Spanish games and pinatas made the party a treat for all players. Spanish movies and other information on Latin America added to this south-of-the-border extravaganza. FRONT ROW: Miss Baker. A. MISS SARAH BAKER presents THE GIRLS STUDE T LE UGE Prci., MARCIA WILLIAMS Secy., RAE SCHRAGIS Vice-Paw., BARBARA WILCOX Trear., LORETTA BUNCH The opening curtain disclosed a group of girls inter- ested in improving student relations and in helping young people for the future. Under the direction of Miss Baker, the Girls Student League starred in three big scenes. The hrst was the Big Sister Party, which helped the new girls in school get ac- quainted with the upperclassmen. The second was the photographing of all students for school records. The pic- tures were also sold to the students and this was the major money raising project of the league. In May the third and final scene for the 1951-1952 season was presented - the annual Vocational Conference which helps to acquaint the students with various vocations open to them upon gradu- ation. GEORGE PETERSON VARSITY BASKETBALL The all green Peekskill Varsity Basketball team out-performed a great many rival veteran teams this year. Led on by the high scoring of Charlie McCor- mack, Charlie Badger, and Nat Ziolkowski, and the cool and even tempered playing of Captain Mike Bottas, the Peekskill Devil team proved itself danger- ous to play and hard to beat, Peekskill seemed to have lost Ossining as an arch rival in basketball as they romped over the Indian team with over twenty-point victories at each meet- ing. The main scores of conflict were when the Devils played the Hendrick Hudson Sailors and the Horse- men of North Tarrytown. The whole Devil Team played a much harder and scrappier ball game than did the Devils of a few years back. Coach George Peterson can well be proud of his efforts and his team this year and can look forward to a good team for a few years to come. MERRITT LINDSEY Presents UNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL The Junior Varsity didn't do so well this year as far as games won and lost were concerned. Among their victories with opposing teams were Arlington, New York School for the Deaf and North Tarrytown. The team was spurred on by the scoring ability of Al Strumke, Don Lemalc and Dick Boylan, who were the team's respective high scorers. In the latter part of the season the lead-off squad contained four men who were over six feet two inches in height, which is a valuable asset to any squad. Mr, Lindsey's efforts in training his squad really showed up, in that the play- ers had good team work and never seemed to give up regardless of how the game was going. Although the team didn't win as many games as in preceding years, they still show great promise for the future. The team has had a great deal of experi- ence, with fourteen members of the squad participa- ting in the games. From the bleechers during the football season and from the stands during the basketball season, their cheers consistently added to the excitement of the games and to the morale of our teams. However, the Cheerleaders are important not only for their supporting role. Our squad was highly rated in Cheerleading competitions. It was the result of more than chance that our girls did so well. They practiced long and hard under the direction of their ad- viser, Miss Snyder and their captain, XWinnie Pisani. This, added to their natural abilities and originality, made them our stars.
