The promotion of school spirit and greater interest in school affairs is the purpose of S. S. A. Its members are voted in by a majority vote of their classmates. This club, under the guidance of Mrs. Odell, showed their interest this year 'by selling pencils with basketball schedules on them, and also by selling ban- ners. The group helped to raise money for the booster campaign, sponsored a dance, and held initiations and parties. Each year a gift, pur- chased with the money obtained during the school year, is presented to the school. Last year's group purchased an American Flag which was presented to the school this year. The officers are: President, Bernadette Shutt: Vice-President, Pat Buchanan: Secretary, Pat Cunane: and Treasurer, Sue Mohlsick.

The Peekskill Chapter of the National Forensic League, under the direction of Mr, Swank, is an organization existing for the promotion of interscholastic competition in public speaking. Each year, Peekskill participates in several debates and oratorical contests. The year is climaxed by the New York State Tournament at which the champions in debate and the various oratorical fields are decided. In order to participate in these contests, traveling expenses have to be met. The Di Bubbo School of Dance, in May, staged a benefit performance in the P. H. S. auditorium, in order to raise funds for the 1950-1951 debate team. At midseasion this year, the varsity debate team had Won nineteen debates and lost only five. The officers of the local chapter are: President, Herbert White: Vice-Presi- dent, Marie Colao: Secretary, Iessica Marer: Treasurer, Bernard Yudowitz. QLIILL AND SCROLL Lett: I. Marer, V. Ott. Right: C. Naylor, I, Kesselman. B. Yudowitz. The Quill and Scroll is an honor society providing recognition to those who have made superior accomplishments in the field of high school jour- nalism. International in scope, the organization has chapters in over thirty-five hundred schools all over the world. Peekskill High School's Chapter is made up of three Seniors and two Iuniors.
