This is a particularly fine group of kids and I'm looking forward to working with them. A number of the players are athletes I've worked with before, so that makes me feel even more comfortable. Although he had never been head coach, he had been a member of the coaching staff for ten years. The Fa1con's 3-3-2 record boasts no outstanding accomplishments, however, for a 1st year head coach it is nothing to be ashamed of. A disappointing start against new opponent Lenape Valley was quick- ly countered with a close victory over Hun, and a big win, the first in 12 years, against a young Delbarton team. The remainder of the season Sf I I p + ss. 'f -.W . A-M K I 0' ' -rf ' . , . .- , S, ,- .i 1 D 4, q w- i .- . ,L 4 ,., t .-.., , A 4 was neither here, nor there, featur- ing two ties, and a close game against Williamson. But ending on a good note, the team pulled together for perhaps the best performance of the year against a powerful Hill School, and came home undoubt- ably on top with a 16-6 victory. With eighteen of the thirty-three varsity players graduating, Peddie is looking to rebuild, and cutting down on the number of boys ac- cepted to the school isn't facil- itating the already difficult task. Al- though things may look grim, no one knows for sure what the future holds, so all we can do is hope for the best. 101 wr nu Iunior arsit Football IUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL LETTER WINNERS: Best. The 1980 Peddie baseball team had a good, yet somewhat disappointing season, The final tally was 8 wins and 5 losses. Three of those losses ftwo close onesj were to a powerhouse Lawrenceville team that won 20 games. What gave promise of being a worthy successor to last year's state champions suffered a damaging blow when All-State pitcher, Shaun Lachapelle, sustained a shoulder injury in a wrestling match and was unable to pitch until mid-season. In addition, a relatively inexperienced infield fthree juniors and a sophomorej was inconsistent. It must be added that they jelled and played well in the second half of the season. High spots of the season were an 8-4 win over a very strong Hun team, achieved with a four-run sev- enth inningg Lachapelle's no-hitter in a state tourney game against Delbarton, a .303 team batting average: and the consistently fine pitching of junior, Henry Paracchini, a newcomer from Puerto Rico, who had a 6-0 record, a 1.50 ERA, and a one-hitter against Blair. Leading hitters were Lachapelle. f.423JQ Brian Car- duner 1.40013 and Albert Yuknus f.389j. Other .300 hitters were joe Goceljak, Ron lmmesberger, Frank Mark Shingle, and joe Davis. Matt Grace, Zlock, and Pete Donaghue, a brilliant center fielder, were others who made significicant contributions. Mark Young and Iohann Schneider were others who saw consid- erable action. An encouraging note is the fact that ten squad members will return for the 1981 season. 118 V PEDDIE BASEBALL VS.
