Hronrsroww New JERSEY MEMORIAL HALL Thls new fireproof bulldmg wh1ch wxll be ready for use ln De cember 1974 1S the largest lllllt of The Greater Pedd1e of wh1ch Coleman House erected ln 1912 was the begmnmg It IS located on the East S1dC of the quadrangle between Trask House and the Rober son Infirmary The bulldxng IS one hundred seventy feet long wzth a wmg elghty feet 1n depth at each end It contams twenty e1ght class rooms laboratones for sclence study room receptxon room and offices wxth prov1s1on for the later addxtron of an aud1tor1um A fea ture of the bu1ld1ng 1S the large foy er wh1ch opens out of the front vestxbule The vaulted cezlmg of th1s foyer IS supported by four marble columns and slmrlar p1lasters about the walls The walls are paneled 1n French Caen Stone above wh1ch 1S a mural frleze wh1ch forms a band of color as a forl to the colder stone surface below A the names of the more than SIX hundred Peddre men who served 1n the W'orld NVar COLEMAN HOUSE The 1n1t1a1 step 1n the real1zat1on of plans for The Greater Peddxe was taken m Apr1l 1912 when the contract was placed for the first of a SCTICS of new fireproof dormrtones Th1s dorm1tory 1S named 1n honor of the late Henry U Coleman of Trenton for many years a member and F1rst VICC Pres1dent of the Board of Corporators These house dorm1tor1es are each to accommodate from twenty to thlrty boys w1th a house master The archztecture for the new group IS Georgran or Englrsh co1on1al The constructron fxre proof throughout IS of brxck w1th tr1m mmgs of Indrana l1mestone and terra cotta Coleman House IS at the northeast corner of the proposed quadrangle and IS three stor1es h1gh In add1t1on to a suxte of rooms for the house master and h1s ass1stant there are th1rteen su1tes for two boys each and three smgle rooms Each su1te has 9. study and two bedrooms In each study 1S an open fireplace w1th a mantel ornamented by a monogram of the School The house 3 4 J . . . y . Trask LLD educator ph1lanthrop1st frxend of youth for more than thlrty sears Prmcrpal of the South Jersey Instttute Brldge ton N I The 1nterests of that school were merged xx 1th those of Pedd1e when the former school was closed m 1907 Trask House IS colomal 1n archrtecture fxre proof through out and conforms ln 1ts general arrangements for students to the plans of the Coleman House descrlbed above It accommodates boys In both Trask and Coleman Houses the steam heat and hot water supply are delrvered from the central heatmg plant s1t uated at the rear of VV1lson Hall AVERY HOUSE The thrrd of the ser1es of new dormrtorres was erected m 1920 It IS a compamon to the Coleman House and stands m the rear of the Longstreet L1brary on the northwest corner of the quadrangle The archrtecture construct1on and arrangement of rooms IS the same as the Coleman House It IS named 1n honor of the late Rev E I Avery Pr1nc1pal of the school from 1876 to 1882 BUCHANAN KEELER BEEKMAN AND LELAND HOUSES The growth of the School m recent years has made necessary mcreased dormxtory accommodat1ons and the four houses named above have been purchased and fitted up for the older bovs All of them have steam heat electr1c lrght san1tary plumbmg and pro ude comfortable lxvmg quarters Buchanan accommodates eleven boys Keeler eleven Beekman srxteen and Leland thxrty SIX Buchanan Keeler and Beekman each have a resldent marr1ed 14 J Y ' '!
