It was presented on December 7 8: 8, at 8:00 p.m. The play told the story of a group of German Nuns who had come to America to be free to worship God as they wanted to. They came to own a farm in Arizona, in a very dry, arid region, and needed help from someone, preferably a Big Strong Man . The story of Mother Maria Marthe and her conflicts with the man sent to her are the real plot of the play. Homer Smith, a wandering army veteran, comes to know the Nuns. Against seemingly impossible circumstances, he builds them a chapel, almost single-handedly. His concern for the German Nuns makes the play a touching, memorable story.
