Alufzszirzfsrzcfarzt Mr. Ray Whitley, Superin- tendent of Pecos Schools, has held his position since 1945. He has worked to improve the quality of the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah lnde- pendent School District. He works closely with the School Board and the fac- ulty to achieve the highest standard of education possi- ble. Mr. Whitley began his career in Pecos in 1935 as a football coach for Pecos lun- ior High. He took the posi- tion of principal for Pecos Elementary in 1938. He became Superintendent in 1945. Mr. Whitley is an active member of TSTA, TASA, AASA, the Rotary Club, and the Chamber of Commerce. He received his Master of Arts degree from Southwest Texas Teacher's College in San Marcos. Mr. Whitley and his wife Maurine attend the Pres- byterian Church. They have one daughter, Sue Raye Iohnson. Sue Raye gradu- ated from Pecos High School and later from the University of Texas.
