It is a song taken from the Broadway musical Fiddler on the Roof The sunrise signifies a beginning, the joy of a new day, a new way of life. The sunset is representative of an ending, the closing of a finished chapter, the sorrow of parting with an old way of life. It was presented on December 7 8: 8, at 8:00 p.m. The play told the story of a group of German Nuns who had come to America to be free to worship God as they wanted to. They came to own a farm in Arizona, in a very dry, arid region, and needed help from someone, preferably a Big Strong Man . The story of Mother Maria Marthe and her conflicts with the man sent to her are the real plot of the play. Homer Smith, a wandering army veteran, comes to know the Nuns. Against seemingly impossible circumstances, he builds them a chapel, almost single-handedly. He has worked to improve the quality of the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah lnde- pendent School District. He works closely with the School Board and the fac- ulty to achieve the highest standard of education possi- ble. Mr. Whitley began his career in Pecos in 1935 as a football coach for Pecos lun- ior High. He took the posi- tion of principal for Pecos Elementary in 1938. He became Superintendent in 1945. Mr. Whitley is an active member of TSTA, TASA, AASA, the Rotary Club, and the Chamber of Commerce. He received his Master of Arts degree from Southwest Texas Teacher's College in San Marcos. Mr. Whitley and his wife Maurine attend the Pres- byterian Church. They have one daughter, Sue Raye Iohnson. Sue Raye gradu- ated from Pecos High School and later from the University of Texas. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University, where he received his Masters Degree. Mr. Wright is an active member of TSTA and TASA. He and his wife, Pauline, reside at 621 South Plum. He has done an out- standing job as a principal and is greatly respected by both students and faculty. Mr. Moseley taught Amer- ican and World History for a number of years at Pecos High School. He became Vice-Principal in 1972. He was then Vice-Principal for three years before becoming principal. Mr. Moseley is active in the community, as well as in school affairs. He is a mem- ber of TSTA and the Pecos Downtown Lions Club. Mr. Moseley is a graduate of Howard Payne University, where he received his B.S. degree. He also has a M.Ed. from Sul Ross State Univer- sity. Mr. Moseley and his wife Margaret have two sons, Dennis and Dale. They reside at 2126 Nebraska. The Moseleys are active mem- bers of the First Baptist Church where Mr. Moseley serve as a deacon. He has been -in the school system for ten years, having taught English and Spanish for six years. Mr. Crove is a great influence as well as a friend to all of the students of Pecos High School. Mr. Crove is a member of TSTA. He received his B.A. from Angelo State University and his M.Ed. from Sul Ross State University. Mr. Crove and his wife Car- olyn reside at 2023 Iefferson. The Croves have two sons, Randall and Kevin. They attend the First Baptist Church. Baan of Altucfsnba Mr. David Dutchover is now in his seventh year as the Dean of Students for Pecos High School. He served as principal of Zavala Iun- ior High School for six years prior to his com- ing to Pecos High. Mr. Dutchover is involved with many different activities, such as serving as the sponsor of the Student Council. Mr. Dutchover received his B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from Sul Ross State University. Mr. Dutchover and his wife Mary reside at 2433 S. Eddy with their six children, David, Sandra, Iimmy, Lorraine, Wanda, and Benjamin. That is the purpose of this new section of the Yearbook. We have tried to highlight some of our more memorable moments at Pecos High School in these pages. It is ten pages, totally devoted to Seniors-their faces, happen- ings, joys, smiles, and sorrows. There, of course, are many, many things that can never be captured with a camera or a pen, but I hope that in this section we have managed to surface memories that are special to us all. The Seniors of '79 have much to remember: A quarter- finalist football team in '76, a regional tennis finalist, various and sundry bomb threats over the years, State tournament baseball teams, proms, plays, Presenta- tions, and so much more. We, as a class, have spent four years together-four years that have been full and busy ones. We came together having been rivals in Ir. High, and we merged into one class: now we will grad- uate as one class. As you all travel onward and leave Pecos High behind, it is my hope that this part of your Yearbook will occasionally bring to mind the good times at P.H.S. Celia and Celina Acosta. and Michael and Mitchell McLain. 3. Mr. Grove and Mr. Moseley are a couple of the nicest principals that any student could ever ask for. Mr. Dalton Moseley has been a very special person in the lives ofthe Seniors. He came to Pecos High School as principal the same year we did, 1976, and likewise he is leaving Pecos High with us. Mr. Moseley will be serving as Assistant Super- intendent of the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah CISD next year. We offer him our congratulations and wish him the best of luck.
