EXCHANGE STUDE T FOR the second consecutive year, we have had the privilege of entertaining in our school an exchange student from a foreign country. The student, Lars Ameus, was a congenial, well informed boy who came to us from a village named Enskede lErnsheadal near the outskirts of Stockholm. His medium height and red hair seemed to go well with his popularity and good sense of humor. He was an accomplished linguist, understanding six languages, and although in grade thirteen, he still had one more year to go before graduating. He liked the American people and said that he could find little differ- ence between the Swedish and American way of life. However, he did comment about the freedom in Ameri- can education and he felt that due to the contrasting strictness of the Swedish schools, a compromise between Swedish and American schools would be ideal. During our many talks with him, we discovered that he was re- quired to take fifteen subjects as compared to our six, and that, although the Swedish schools do not have foot- ball, basketball, volleyball or baseball, they do have more outside winter sports than we do. iThe experience of having Lars has again made us realize the importance of world unity, and we feel that the visit of these exchange students has served to strengthen the bonds of unity between Scandinavia and America. 62 ' LARS AMEUS NOW, this memoranda of our joyous years spent in Pearl River High School comes to an end. We hope that it will ever serve as a reminder of the pleasant past, and as an inspir- ation for the future years to come.
