World s Largest Weather The Daily Rocket January 1, 1960 Reunion of P. R. H. S. '48 Alumni On the Astor Roof in New York, N. Y., members of the Class of 1948 came from all over the world to hold their first reun- ion. As the Alumni arrived on the spacious roof, the No. 1 orchestra of the U. S. A., led by Richard fMaestroJ Perry, softly accom- panied Jeanne Starr, new singing discovery. The guests began to arrive early. Among the earliest was the internationally famous figure skater, Elaine Clarkg also Phyllis Evans, this year's favorite cover girl, ac- companied by James Pirkl, whose oil Daint- ing of Pearl River ,High School won first prize at the art exhibit in the Metropolitan Museum. Rose Marie Pecorale could stay only a few minutes as she had to get back to her taxi-cab. She has the distinction of being the first woman taxi-cab driver in Pearl River. Guy Davis arrived slightly breathless . . . He had just driven his fire engine to a fire! Among the couples present were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schnakenberg tJerry Crosbieh . . . Jerry, by the way, had to be ad- ministered lirst aid by Joan Bryan, R.N., and Jeanne Keahon, R.N., ,when she went into hysterics over top comedian, George Schroeder. The lights dimmed and into the spotlight stepped the world renowned violinist, George Medlicott. Scintillating Jan Gough, who is soon to be featured in the Hollywood adaptation of the Broadway hit Meet Me in Pearl River, rendered the group an exotic South American dance. Many were the young ladies who fainted away when the new swoon sensation, Al Wietecki, stepped into the limelight. ALL AMERICANS ARE PRESENT Hearing a chorus of hearty greeting, everyone tumed to behold none other than members of the country's All-American football team: Edward Thompson, Victor Veltidi, Robert Powers, twho now plays guardb, Robert Smith, and Gus Zistler. With his old buddies was Edward Woods- outstanding baseball player of the Phila- delphia Phillies. A Fourth Party Planned Charles Haddock', Individualist, announc- ed today that he plans to run as an inde- pendent candidate for President of the United States during the next election. Managers of the party are Louis Bertussi, noted orator, and Helen Trebino, who in- tends to appeal to the gum chewers of the U.S. The party artist is Arthur Eichner, who has achieved national fame with his advertising. His able assistant is Doris Murdock. Luncheon At The White House This aftemoon, in the grand dining room of the White House, President Arthur Wagner entertained guests who joined with him in celebrating his birthday. Many and varied were the guests who accepted the President's invitation. Guest of Peter San- tan, Secretary of Agriculture, was Anna Laura Hansen, his private secretary. Sec- retary of the Interior, Harry Sorensen, was unable to attend. Robert Perillo, chief justice of the Supreme Court, brought along cover girl, Ann Entwistle. The menu was planned by Lillian Kow- atsch, whose choice of food was highly praised. Here, There and Everywhere We are sorry to hear that comedian Wil- liam Kinard, recently stumbled and broke his ankle. Designer June Mott announces a style show in her studios at 1215 Forest Avenue, our town. She stated the New Look will be definitely done away with this year! Theresa Py's newest novel, Central Avenue, will be reviewed Thursday after- noon in the Municipal Building Discussion Room by Barbara Katenkamp and Jean Kearney, critics for the Literary Gazette. Ginnie Tuttle, sensational new vocalist, will make her debut in New York next week with Benny Goodman's band. Cecile Gagnon, Directress of the famous Katherine Gibbs School, has been attending meetings of the E. B. W. in New York City with her assistants Gertrude Rambach,- Eula Dulmer and Annette Casazza. James Keahon announces the opening of the Keahon Community Garage on Central Avenue. Palmer Bethea, U.S. swimming champ, is participating in Billy Rose's Aquacade at the Chicago World's Fair. Daniel Costigan, famous cartoonist, has taken a position with the New Yorker magazine. Nancy Lang, editor of the Fashion Gazette, has organized The Women's Fashion League. Noma Lauer and Randi Foss are advertisers for Miss Lang's league. Mr. Ralph Mansen, Jr. has just left on the S.S. Americana for Brazil, where he has taken a position as engineer for the Standard Oil Company. New F. B. I. Chief WASHINGTON-RCPOYLS from the White House announce that Breta Schroeder has replaced J. Edgar Hoover as Director of Federal Bureau of Invesigation. Miss Schroeder has announced that her chief assistant is Clyde Gage. Rocket Reaches Mercury WASHINGTON-a radar message sent from the distant planet of Mercury informs us that our rocket ship, the Pirate, reached there safely two days, ago. The Rocket's crew included Dr. Peter Weil, the founder of the project, Jerry Hammond, Ph.D., Dr. Adolph Thiel, Eric Holms, engineer who supervised the building of the ship, and Edith Evans, famed woman engineer who devised the self-deflating rocket. Women in the News The versatile Lorraine Dorff, artist, poetess, authoress, mathematician, histor- ian, and last but not least house wife, has at long last returned from her three-year world tour to her forlom husband and four children. Here she will study the art of cooking in order to keep peace in the family. Miss Carolyn Nagy, famous American pianist, has informed her friends that she will assist Oscar Levant in transposing Gershwin's American in Paris into American in Siberia. Joan Doscher, professor of Mathematics at Vassar College, and Joyce Flood, pro- fessor of Psychology at Barnard, have re- cently received their Ph.D. Degrees. Sweetheart of Sigma Chi Critically III As a result of a fall from the steps of Women's ColIege's Dance Hall, Margaret McGrath, formerly the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi, is seriously ill in Memorial Hospital. The accident occurred last Satur- day evening after the College Dance at which Miss McGrath was chaperone. Clara Nickels, Miss McGrath's assistant, and George Brown, her escort, were greatly upset by the accident. The dance, held as a charity benefit, was considered a huge success.
