ANNA CLASS OFFICEIQS RICHARD PERRY ' V President JOYCE FLOOD Vice President LAURA HANSEN Secretary GERTRUDE CROSB I E im, Treasurer CLASS HISTOIQY THIS year, the year of nineteen hundred and sixty, we, former graduates of Pearl River High School, review with fond memories the activities which constituted our high school days. lt seems just like yesterday, when, in Sep- tember l944, we, as innocent Freshmen, shyly mingled with the upper classmen. What a thrill to take the new subjects introduced to us, and to pass to classes in the upper halll Before we realized it, this year full of modern ideas and lots of joy drew to a close, and we started to climb to greater heights. As Sophomores, we found that more work with less play was necessary, so began our studying in earnest to reach the goal of enter- ing a Junior homeroom. ln this happy Junior year as upper classmen, we held our Junior Prom, the featured social highlight of the season and a huge success! Finally our wonderful Senior year arrived. Plans were made for many activities scheduled for the year, including our trip to Washington and our Senior Hop. lt wasn't until we received our class rings in January that the realization came to us that soon this glorious time would end, and we no longer would be a part of the student body of P. R. H. S. That was long ago. We've all gone our own ways in this world now, but we know that future years will never dim the reminiscing thoughts we hold of those past semesters of work, study, fellowship, and fun made possible by our attending Pearl River High. hi I nu -11 .':.-L 12.5 :lf .-I .1 'n .0 . v:' ,,,-,., f 2 31 .- Ol 1... 1: .- :- ,.,s- l'n '11 1 -1,1 xg. -1-. n .l :J 'l .' :: 5-T ,,,,,,. :J ,,,,,, ,1.., .. ,T-, ' ,-in 1 V -iv '. l, .-.- .1 '-5 --f 'J --,, -S, ..... The second game proved a bitter disappointment when Spring Valley took an l8-6 victory, but not without a stubborn battle on the part of our team. The following week the Bucs were off and flew to a 35-O walloping of the hapless Flying Dutchmen from Piermont. Then the Pirates downed Suffern 6-O in a tight defensive game. After a breather with Peekskill Military Academy at which the Bucs won, 27-6, they ventured to the wigwam of the Nyack Indians. Scoring in each half, they returned home with a I2-O victory. The Dextertowners then defeated Haverstraw 25-6 in a rough tussle and gained for themselves a tie with Suffern for the championship, The leaders of the scoring parade were Bob Smith 30 and Vic Veltidi 25 points. 53 , get 'W-milf' 3, A 2. at Q 3- 1 .RM 1 In N3 , ft' il 5 if if A . VAIQSITV BASKETBALL WITH two returning Varsity players from last year, the starting five of last year's championship J. V. team, and two other J. V. members, the Bucs had won two out of three league games and one out of three non-league games for an overall record of 3 and 3. ln the league games to date, Haverstraw and Piermont had succumbed to the Pirate quintet, the former by four and the latter by six points. Spring Valley edged out P. R. in the last forty-five seconds to win by four points. By the scores, all seven teams in P. S. A. L. play seemed to be of the same caliber with each team having dropped at least one contest. 54 2 T Q M 'buf , . 'T HQ ur , . fi 'f' Wi X4 3 2 'S 'N rf Y -- if Jn -I +1 .1 ,,,.. 0 ,. The student, Lars Ameus, was a congenial, well informed boy who came to us from a village named Enskede lErnsheadal near the outskirts of Stockholm. His medium height and red hair seemed to go well with his popularity and good sense of humor. He was an accomplished linguist, understanding six languages, and although in grade thirteen, he still had one more year to go before graduating. He liked the American people and said that he could find little differ- ence between the Swedish and American way of life. However, he did comment about the freedom in Ameri- can education and he felt that due to the contrasting strictness of the Swedish schools, a compromise between Swedish and American schools would be ideal. During our many talks with him, we discovered that he was re- quired to take fifteen subjects as compared to our six, and that, although the Swedish schools do not have foot- ball, basketball, volleyball or baseball, they do have more outside winter sports than we do. iThe experience of having Lars has again made us realize the importance of world unity, and we feel that the visit of these exchange students has served to strengthen the bonds of unity between Scandinavia and America. 62 ' LARS AMEUS NOW, this memoranda of our joyous years spent in Pearl River High School comes to an end. We hope that it will ever serve as a reminder of the pleasant past, and as an inspir- ation for the future years to come. PATRONS FREDERICK SCHROEDER S. W.
