O. is made up of two representatives from each class. The president, a senior, is elected by the entire student body. The most outstanding accomplishment ofthe year was the raising of money for a Service Flag. The funds were raised by a Tag Day, Contributions were so generous that a new American Flag was also purchased, Two movies were shown, and the organ- ization assisted the Women's Club with the New Year's Eve Dance. The ath- letic awards were purchased as usual by the G. O. Honor Society HE Honor Society calls the attention ot the student to the necessity of character, scholarship, initiative and citizenship. To be accepted the student must have maintained an average ot at least 856k throughout the four years. During the year the society gave dances, cake sales, and movies. They have given the honor certificates, aided in the War Stamp Drive and started a suggestion box. The judges try all cases of traffic violation presented by the traffic officers and pass sentences. The court clerk keeps the records, and the captain of the traffic squad is present at all sessions. During the year they partici- pated in an assembly program, had movies and plays, Latin Club EWLY organized this year, the Latin Club has been a great success. The purposes of the club are to teach Latin students better understanding of Roman culture, to study mythology, and to do other interesting things for which there is no time in class, The club is organized on the plan of the Roman Republic with consuls acting as heads, In its monthly meetings the club sang songs in Latin, dramatized myths and celebrated the Saturnalia. Girls' Chorus HE Girls' Chorus is made up of the high school girls who are interested in classical music. ln November, they sang for the Women's Club, and in December the Rotary Club invited them to a Christmas Party, They partici- pated in the Christmas High School Program. On March 4 and 5 many of the members took part in the operetta Tune ln . The show proved to be such a success that it was repeated for the Red Cross. r Boys' Chorus HE Boys' chorus met once a week under the supervision of Mrs. Lalla. Their music consisted mainly ot popular songs, several of which were presented at the Christmas Program for the high school. Many of them took part in the operetta Tune ln . The choruses with the band gave a spring concert. Band NE of our most popular organizations is the band. lt played at all the home football games, for boys leaving for the service, at the dedication of the Rockland State Hospital Service Flag and at the presentation of the E Flag to the Dexter Folder Company. At school, they gave a concert and took part in assemblies and the operetta. Director MRS. Those who are graduating are Susan Huyer, Margaret De Vries, Lenore Morrongello, Dorothy Dillin and Effie Simpson, leaving Mary Schoonover and Beverly Roth for the Varsity Squad of next year. Lenore Morrongello was captain and Mary Schoonovei was co-captain, -. Football Pirates surprise all. That was the keynote of the I943 season. Suffern riding high on a five year winning streak was toppled by the blue and white in the biggest upset of PSAL competition in five years. With only four letterman back, Coach Shuttleworth had to build the team from inexperienced boys. The team, captained by Jim Paterson, met Westwood on home soil and beat them 26-O. The next game with Spring Valley was lost 6-O. The following game with Park Ridge was won Zl-6. After losing the Haverstraw game by l8-6, the team went to win over Suffern and Nyack by scores of l8-l2 and 25-I9 respectively. The team was given two banquets. One by Mr. Paul Bo- nomolo of P. IRA V, SHUTTLEWORTH Varsity Basketball HE varsity basketball team, captained by Jim Paterson, who was the only veteran from last year, did not have a very successful season. At the start they won three out of five non-league contests, after which their pace slac- kened and they lost eight of the ten remaining contests. The starting line-up was: J Paterson, P. Fighting hard to get in the win column, the boys had to be satisfied with two wins over the Freshmen and three wins in league competition. Freshman Basketball Manager WILLIAM ROWAN Coach MR. RICHARD LUCAS HIS was the fourth year that the school had a freshman team. Its main purpose is to provide the younger boys with experience, which will be valuable in later years. Of the seven games in which the team played, they won two and lost two with St. Margaret's and won three with outside teams. SHUTTLEWORTH Baseball HE l943 baseball team started practices three weeks earlier this year in the bitter cold, Due to transportation conditions, all games were played within the county. On the mound were R. Rowan and C. Roth, while R. Kernan was catching. Infield choices were S. Breda, P. Bonomolo, J. McCar- thy, and G. Holstein. In the outfield were J. Reilly, W. Erickson, and L. D'Ambroso. Track ONE of the scheduled meets have been held at the time this publication goes to press, however, the squad is anticipated to be quite successful. The first game proved its strength, when Piermont was beaten by a score of 3-2. The follow- ing week, the team played host to the strong Spring Valley squad and lost a hard fought game in an overtime period. The next game resulted in a victory over l-laverstraw by a score of 3-2, The season ended by playing the two most powerful teams in the country, Nyack and Congers. These games were lost by scores of 4-l and 8-O. Junior Varsity Cheerleaders HIS year for the first time, Pearl River High School experienced a Junior Varsity cheer squad. Volleyball HE girls had a volleyball play day with Park Ridge, which was very success- ful. The rest of the intramurals were carried on between classes. Athletic awards were given to girls, who met the required amount of partic- ipation in these sports.
