1 hi Wildcat 1981 Pearl River College Poplarville, MS The time, the place is now Once the formality of registration was complete, it was time for individuals to slowly experience the real meaning of the River Magic. Whether it was an orien- tation or just the first pep rally the magic quietly slipped through the day and into the darkness. Pearl River College is the beginning of all the dreams bottled up inside. It is the place where individ- uals found themselves and discovered what others had to offer. Activities were many and course offerings were even greater than most had anticipated. The fall of 1980 began a new decade of hopes and dreams for a record number of River students Probably the most impor- tant things that happened to us was that we discovered ourselves. Although accepting the newly acquired responsi- bilities of being a college stu- dent, we soon found that we could indeed, preserve our in- ner self and keep our best personal traits intact. The new-found freedom of being a college student allowed in- dividuals to blend together into the swirl of the River Magic. Wendy Abrams Mixing strength and beauty is what the Rive] Magic is all about .... Halloween Carnival . . . Boo! Ghost, Goblins, and Uglies Overrun PRC Food, fun, and games were available for all to enjoy at the Pearl River Junior College Halloween Carnival held October 30 in Shivers Gym. Sponsored by SPARC, the carnival was kicked off with hamburgers sizzled on an open grill with four crackling bon fires setting the mood for the evening. As dusk crept upon the River campus, goblins, werewolves, black cats, and spooks began to come out of the woodwork. Many organizations displayed their Halloween spirit in booths such as Go Fishing by the Drama Club, Sponge Throw , Phi Theta Kappa; Cake Roulette and The Hitching Post by Phi Beta Lambda. The Seven Wonders were conveyed by the Wesley Foundation, and a Basketball Throw was sponsored by the basketball team. Being a good sport, Coach Arban sat through many a pie in the face in the Pie Booth set up by the Dixie Drawl staff. The Afro-American Cultural Society sponsored the Baseball Throw and DECA made a splash at the car- nival with an icy cold Dunking Booth. Many a per- son chunked their change at the Coin Toss, also sponsored by DECA. The String of Pearls convinced many to trek their Cake Walk, while UICA spon- sored a mysterious Fortune Teller who told of riches, romance, and doom. Refreshments and candy were available from Phi Theta Kappa, Cosmetology, and Afro-American Cultural Society. Naughty ghouls and goblins were kept behind bars in the Jail — constructed by the Baptist Student Union. Coach Arban Aids Drawl ' s Efforts. A whole week of rivals and other activities were sponsored by the local BSU chapter. Crunch . . . Remember the day the tree came tumbling down . . . There ' s no doubt Kelly McKenzie will not forget it, be- cause the tree was sandwiched right on top of her Cougar. Gusty winds and a decaying oak limb played hav- oc on her mode of travel. Kelly (left) was obviously upset about the entire situation as she talks with a friend and a PRC security officer. A BLUE RIBBON . . . PRC participated in the Pearl River County Fair and won a Blue Ribbon for its presentation. The booth depicted the River Magic. Red Cross Drive Nets 59 Pints Marion Hall provided the setting for 79 students, faculty, staff, and supporters of Pearl River College who gathered throughout the day to donate blood for the Gulf Coast Regional Red Cross Chapter. Although 79 persons stopped by to pledge their blood, only 59 pints were actually ac- cepted by the chapter. The blood drive was sponsored by the Pearl River Junior College Nursing Depart- ment, under the direction of Mrs. Charlotte Odom and The Dixie Drawl. The blood was distributed for use between 60 hospitals throughout the Gulf Coast re- gion to help hospitals curb their ever present need for the life-saving fluid. The Red Cross has set a goal of collecting at least 275 pints of blood each day to meet the needs of our Southern area. They hope that when the Blood Mobile returns to the Pearl River campus second semester that many more people will find time to donate. Boots and cowboy hats were certainly the Tn Fad ' back in the fall. Here a PRC student 30 is his ability to ride a mechanical bull at Tal ' s Corral in Hattieburg. Those Crazy Days Of Perk Week Unfortunately, there is no one word in the Eng- lish language that can properly characterize what takes place during Pearl River College ' s annual celebration of Perk Week . There are many words that can catch a moment of the week long festivities — tradition, confusion, outrageousness — but still, after years of trying to find the magic word to depict what happens on the campus — no one has. This year, Perk Week was held during the week October 6-11, with the highlight of the six days being the annual grudge match between the foot- ball powers of Pearl River and Gulf Coast Junior College. But what happens during the days before the gridiron contest in probably the best memo- ries that are kept long afterwards. In keeping with tradition, the Wildcat cheerleaders organized special days of the week in which students dressed accordingly. On Monday, ' Fifties Day ' roamed the campus with students drifting back into the golden days of old with slick backed hair, pleated pants and saddle shoes. Tuesday found a new type of college student can- vassing the campus— Hillbillies— all dressed out with that style found only from the secluded hills. Kiddie Day took over the college on Wednesday with diapers, baby bottles and poka-dot dresses. Thursday brought PRC ' s school colors out as ev- eryone was urged to dress in the colors of maroon and gold. Capping the week was Gum and Sucker day, and students were armed appropiately with gigantic lolly-pops and gobs of heavy duty bubble gum. Many hours were spent in water balloon combat with males and females, dorm against dorm, friend against friend. As always the fun begins with simple water balloons thrown at unsuspecting targets, but as the week goes on trash cans, buckets and fire extinguishers are used to soak the opponent. Shaving cream is another favorite form of ammunition. All in all, Perk Week allows all the students to unwind, let loose and act crazy without anyone really looking at them as if they ' re nuts. It ' s a fun time . . . that really should be reserved for only once a year. f 33 37 Tub Day Nets Candlelighters $900 The middle of a college cafeteria is certainly not the normal place to take a bath — especially when a thousand to fourteen hundred per- sons are getting ready for lunch. Nevertheless, the young and the old, the students and faculty mem- bers, the crest of the administra- tion and even the instigators took their turns — whether they needed it or not — at bathing in public here on campus. The first ever SPARC (Student Publicizing Activities on the River Campus) sponsored Tub Day was held to raise money for the newly formed University Medical Center Candlelighters, an organization es- pecially for individuals with chil- dren suffering from cancer. Almost $900 was donated to see their favorite person take a 15 minute splash in the ole tub right smack in the middle of the noon cafeteria line. Complete with bub- ble bath, rubber duckies and scrub brush, one by one the chosen few hit the water. Most came prepared for the occa- sion, while others hammed it up, just a little, with scuba diving suits and ruffled bloomers. Still others were caught unaware and had to take the dive in their working clothes. The Poplarville Rotary Club, meeting in one of the conference rooms, saw how much fun everyone was having. Soon the members found out that to sponsor a mid-day soaking would cost only $25 per person, and within a blink the local business men had shuf- fled out $50 and President Marvin White and Dean Enoch Seal were soon singing Popeye the Sailor Man . Dr. White had beautifully ma- neuvered his way out of sitting in the spotlight all day long by sug- gesting other individuals, whom he thought would draw more at- tention. The Rotary ' s action came as somewhat of a surprise and the next thing he knew, it was ear- washing time. Even Dr. Becky Askew, SPARC advisor and instigator of so many of the activities on campus, found herself getting a wet feeling of what the activity was all about. The Candlelighters began about two years ago as a service to par- Becky ents with children suffering from cancer. There is a need for par- ents of children being treated for cancer to have a place to talk and discuss ways to cope with the situ- ation, said Randy Reed, vice-presi- dent of the organization and vo- tech counselor here at the Poplarville campus. Read ' s baby girl died of Leuke- mia last year after a long illness. Treatment for the disease can take weeks, months or even years, causing more mental, physical and financial strain on the family. At the present time 140 families in Mississippi have children being treated at the University Medical Center. The Candlelighters not only provide an avenue for the parents to socialize, but the group also sponsors at least two get togethers each year. You may have started some- thing other junior college and uni- versity organizations can copy, said Bob Minyard, president of the organization. Speaking for the 140 families here in Mississippi, we are truly greatful for the time and ef- fort you spent in supporting our organization and our children. What ' s So Rough About College Life? No Female Beauty Contest Is Hit LADIES OF THE EVENING . . . Pearl River College ' s Beta Tau Chap- ter of the Phi Beta Lambda sponsored the first annual No Female Beauty Contest here on the PRC campus. The beautiful or not so beautiful ladies or whatever, joined in the fun to raise money for the St. Jude ' s Hospital in Memphis. The winners of the compe- tition were (from left) Mark Griffith, Prentiss, Best Legs; Steve Dees, Pica- yune, Best Chest; Wesley Berry, Prentiss, Mr. No-Female Beauty; and Howard Walters, PRC insturctor, Poplarville, Best Dressed. Drawl Has Part In Sending Miss Pope To Atlantic City Donna Pope, Miss Pearl River County, is Miss Mississippi and was second runner-up to Miss America in the annual pageant staged in Atlantic City. Miss Pope did not attend Pearl River, however, the Dixie Drawl did play a little part in sending her to the Miss America Pageant. Three years ago it was the PRC newspaper which sponsored the Miss Pearl River County Pageant and in so doing gave Donna the experience and opportunity she needed to compete for the title. The Drawl revived the pageant after years of non-existence. Homecoming — 1 980 Homecoming Court — 1980 n Sophomore Maids Freshman Maids Dr. Thomas Malone Named PRCs ' 80 Alumnus of Year Pete Jones, Earliest graduate Dr. Thomas J. Malone of La- Grange, Georiga was named Pearl River Junior College ' s 1980 Alumnus of the Year before a large crowd of former graduates and supporters of Mississippi ' s pio- neer junior college. The award was presented by Larry Ladner of Hattiesburg a 1977 recipient of the award, during the annual PRC Alumni Banquet. The most significant years of my life were spent at PRC , said Dr. Malone, after the selection. This award is one of the most prestigious I have ever been hon- ored to receive. Dr. Malone attended Hattiesburg public schools and graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1957. During his stay at Pearl River, Dr. Malone played two years of varsity football under legendary Coach Dobie Holden, and one year of varsity basketball. He was select- I ed for Phi Theta Kappa honorary ™ society, and was valedictorian of his graduating class of 1960 with a pre-engineering degree. Homecoming Was a Hugh Success 55 57 1980 Football 58 The Pearl River Wildcats headed out on the road for their first gridiron encounter of the 1980 season as they ventured to Moorhead to face the Trojans of Delta Junior College. In what was to become a defensive struggle for both teams, Pearl River found themselves in trouble early in the contest as quarterback Mark Toler ' s first offensive play was intercepted, leaving the Trojans knocking towards the goal line on the ' Cats ' 12 yard line. But the Wildcat defense held as Woodrow Ducksworth collapsed the Trojans ' fourth down try from the eight yard line. The Wildcats pinned Delta deep in their own territory late in the first quarter and were granted a safety as the Trojan punter was forced out of the end zone on a bad snap from center. The 2-0 score in favor of the ' Cats would stand until late in the contest. In the fourth quarter Greg Slade recovered a Delta fum- ble on the 23 yard line and three plays later Toler found John Bissell all alone. Price DE Bassfield, Ms Pearl River 0 — Jones 17 It was called by newspapers across the state — The game that would decide the south division championship. The two perennial football powers of Jones and Pearl River would battle it out in the Wild- cats ' backyard. Both brought unblemished 1-0 records to the contest. The first half brought on what fans from both sides expected — neither team was able to put points on the scoreboard, although Jones failed twice on field goal attempts from inside the forty yard line. But in the second half, Pearl River met its downfall. The Bobcats ' Sherman Wells broke the 0-0 deadlock with a 31 yard field goal, giving Jones the lead. The Bobcats rallied twice more in the fourth quarter for touchdown runs of 1 and 72 yards respectively to roll up a 17-0 victory, which left the Wildcats 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in the south divisi on race. The Wildcats were held to 133 total yards while the Bobcats were credited with 386. PRC 51— Coahoma 7 After an emotional loss to Jones, the Cats needed a big game to turn around the momentum and get the team back on the right track. Wildcat head coach J. C. Arban decided that the team needed a new look and inserted a wishbone offense into the Pearl River offen- sive look. The result brough a 51-7 trouncing of north division foe, Coahoma. Although Coahoma was not one of the strongest teams of the Wildcat schedule, many fans thought that the victory over Coahoma was the beginning of a new, more potent Pearl River football team. The best thing we got from the game with the Ti- gers was confidence that our offense can run with the ball and can score, said Arban. PRC 5— Hinds 28 By the time the Wildcats ' match-up with Hinds came around, the PRC team was sporting a 2-1 mark and had hopes of getting back into the divisional race. Hinds had not been one of the strongest teams in recent years; however, new coach Bill Buckner had the Eagles on the move. In fact, the Eagles were in the race right up until the last game of the season. On this particular night the new stadium at Raymond, the Wildcats had problems again. A safety and field goal in the first half were the only points the ' Cats could muster. The final score was 28-5 and the PRC maroon and gold found themselves in the midst of soul searching. PRC 28— EC 14 Pearl River fell behind 7-0 to the Warriors early in the first period, but the Cats came back as Donnie Lewis scored from one yard out and Bobby Stockstill added the PAT to even the score just before halftime. In the second half the offensive power of the Wild- cats came unleashed as Mark Toler passed to tailback Dentist Nelson for 23 yards and a touchdown to move the River to a 14-7 advantage. But East Central came back quickly to even the game at 14 all as the third quarter ended. After a short defensive struggle PRC linebacker Ken- ny Caines intercepted a pass setting up Lewis for an- other one yard paydirt scamper. The Cats received an insurance score late in the contest as the Warriors coughed up the ball on their own one yard line and Hollis Payton got the touchdown score. PRC rolled up 315 yards in total offense with Nelson being the leading Wildcat rusher, picking up 70 yards on eight attempts. The victory pushed the season record to 3-0 — 1-2 in the strong south division. 63 PRC 10— GC 28 The successful activities celebrating Perk Week on campus came to an abrupt halt in Pascagoula as the Bulldogs utilized a devastating rushing attack to put the Wildcats at bay, and run off a 28-10 victory in an important south division contest. The ' Cats defense, which had been stingy all year, allowed the Bulldogs an unbelievable 325 rushing. So much yardage it would become a season record. The outcome of the game was never seriously in doubt as the Wildcats were plagued with numerous mental errors throughout the contest. We just took turns playing like first graders, said Arban. The loss cancelled any slim chance of the ' Cats mak- ing a post season appearance. It would be the fourth year in a row the Wildcats would keep a regulation schedule of ten games. PRC 0— Holmes 7 Pearl River found their fourth loss on the season coming against the Holmes ' Eagles as the Wildcats ' of- fense turned the ball over five times before a rain- soaked crowd in the Dobie Holden Stadium. Although the ' Cats led in total yardage after the game was completed (268-173) the Eagles led on the scoreboard by turning a Wildcat fumble into a touchdown early in the third quarter. The game was very devastating for the Pearl River team, who had yet to put back-to-back wins together during the season — drifting further down in the south division standings. It was a time of concern for the Pearl River support- ers as poor playing and lack of team unity might bring about only the third losing season in the history of the PRC football program. 64 Pearl River 24 — Southwest 16 Homecoming night belonged to freshman tailback Randall Collette who single-handedly crushed the Bears ' defense. Collette was beauty in motion as he raced for 224 yards on 19 carries and one touchdown. But when it rains, it pours, as other ' Cats, namely Steve Dees and back-up quarterback Lance Larson, turned in outstanding performances. Larson beautifully executed the wishbone attack while Dees brought in two passes from his wide receiver position for 53 yards and one touchdown. Both teams went into the locker rooms tied at 10 points all, but in the second half the ' Cats fell behind as the Bears recovered a fumble and scored five plays later, but missed the PAT. The Wildcats then exploded behind Collette who picked 144 of his yards in the second half. In the third period Collette bulled his way over from 11 yards out to give the ' Cats the lead at 17-10 and Collette ' s scamp- er of 47 yards set up PRC ' s final scoring effort by Hol- lis Payton who rolled over the right side from seven yards out for the score. Pearl River evened their season record at 4-4 for the year and came one step closer to assuring themselves of a winning ledger in 1980. 65 PRC 33— CL 10 The Wildcats assured themselves at least of a break- even season as they trounced the Wolves 33-3 with all the ' Cat ' s scoring coming in the first half. Steve Dees once again proved valuable at this wide- out slot as he scored on a 55 yard pass play from Lance Larson and later returned a punt 56 yards for the Wild- cat ' s final score of the game. Pearl River dropped behind early in the contest as the Wolves converted a 32 yard field goal early in the first period. From then on it was all Pearl River as Bob Collette netted the first ' Cat points on a one yard run up the middle and the rout was on. Dentist Nelson found paydirt on a 10 yard run and Larson connected with John Bissell for the remainder of the scoring. Pearl River 27— Northeast 17 For the final contest of the season, Pearl River was pitted against Northeast Junior College who came into the game undefeated and untied, with the recognition of being the number one junior college football team in the country. It was the first game in the entire season when both the ' Cats defensive and offensive units came together as a team. And the results were devastating for the Ti- gers. The Wildcats ' defense, led by Kelvin McLemore and David Dearman, was vicious and stingy as they stopped the Tigers cold in the first half with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. PRC ' s offesne was nothing less than potent. The ' Cats drove for 17 points in the first two periods as Bobby Stockstill coverted a 32 yard field goal, an elec- trifying 25 yard punt return by Bobby Moorehead, and a one yard run by Bob Collette. But the Tigers came back in the third period march- ing 74 yards in 15 plays for the touchdown, then turn- ing right around and hitting on a 32 yard field goal to tighten the score to 17-10. Wide receiver Steve Dees gave the ' Cats some breath- ing room in the fourth quarter as he caught a 23 yard touchdown pass from Larson, and with 4:44 to go in the s eason, Stockstill capped the game with a 28 yard shot through the uprights for the Wildcats ' final score of the contest. Northeast combined for one last touchdown in the closing minutes, but any chance of preserving their unblemished season was lost. The Pearl River Wildcats had knocked off the nation ' s number one school and finished their season at a more than respectable 6-4 ledger. Nelson was the top running back for the River as he gained 72 yards on seven carries and Larson completed just four of 13 attempts, but for an excellent 119 yards. It truly was a big win for us, said headmaster J. C. Arban, ending the season with three straight wins and beating the nation ' s best made all the hard work worthwhile. Nearly 200 individuals participated in the activities with nearly the same number watching and listening with vocal approval. The event was sponsored by SPARC, Students Publizing Activities on the River Campus. A short Christmas devotion was given by Ellis Seal and a skit was presented about Scrooge Miller Hammill before competition between the different domitories began. Some of the dormitories used creativity and original- ity to mix with their singing ability. White Hall, for example, had its entire group dressed as walking Christmas packages, while Marion Hall entourage came to th e event on a wagon of hay and singing Riding Through The Snow . A group of faculty members, commuters, and a deter- mined, actually brave, segement of Pearl River Hall men, each sang a couple of Christmas tunes. Crosby, another female resident complex, amde their appearance dressed in little girlie clothes, complete with their own Santa Claus and Christmas clown. Alida Ruiz from Venezuela, added a special note as she sang a solo in Spanish. Two other men dormitories added spice to the entire evening. Huff Hall, the second place winner, came dressed in leotards, baseball hats and toboggans, Lamar Hall, the athletic dormitory, also made a humble ap- pearance and came close on a couple of occasions of ac- tually carrying a recognizable tune. Santa and his number one elf then read a long list of items students and faculty members wanted for Christ- mas. Santa then announced that White Hall had won first place in dormitory competition and he was off to rest up for his December 24 trek. Dr. and Mrs. Marvin R. I didn ' t know what to expect from him, having heard all the usual stories about his Confederate tales and WW II jokes. What I envisioned was a mean, ungiving, drill sargeant-type of teacher, but instead, I found a warm caring and easy-going in- structor. In the short time my fellow students and I had the honor of sharing his intelligence and wisdom, we all gained respect and admiration for him. He never failed to answer a question, supply humor to enlighten a sleepy class, or give a depressed student encouragement. He quickly grew to be my favorite teacher. I loved to hear his war stories and tales about his ancestors, but yet, I found myself learning a subject that I had never been able to grasp before — a miracle in itself. He has left this world now though — but his spirit will for- ever fill the River campus. His smile will stay always in the hearts of his many past students and his voice will echo through our minds. Mr. Dunagin, thank you for sharing a part of yourself with Pearl River College. Together we learned . . . 126 to dance, then you must continue to pay 121 Pearl River College Basketball Frustration and bitter disappointment finally came to an end of a Monday night in Utica. For the 1980-81 edition of the Wildcats, it meant a complete turn-around of the previous 18-8 led- ger set a year ago. Numerous obstacles impeded the Wildcats path to success. Of the thirteen original players eli- gible for season play, only five remained due to disciplinary dismissal, inadequate grades, and not electing to return after the Christmas break. To have any bench relief at all, two of Pearl River ' s managers turned players with several weeks left in the year to bring the total number of squad members to seven. Playing only seven members, did not stop the ' Cats or Billy Holmes from playing aggresive basketball. The original five we put on the court can play with anyone in the state , said Holmes, if they all play with the same level of intensity and execute properly. In fact, these seven won several despite being outnumbered on the roster. Wins over LSU-A1- exandria, Southwest, and East Central came when the River was benchless. Follow that with several Heart-Breaking defeats by Jones, Hinds, and Co-Lin, its easily seen that the Cats were competitive. After two successive season-opening wins at home, the Wildcats ran into a offensive slump and registered nine straight losses. The early December skid took most of the wind out of the sails for Pearl River the remainder of the season. The Wildcats never seemed to regain the momentum so evident in the opening wins. As a re- sult, several members of the team fell by the wayside and left the few remaining to dedicate themselves and finish out the season. A seventh place finish placed the Cats against the Utica Bulldogs in the first round of the South Division Tournament. Thoughts of last season ' s opening round win over Utica ran through the minds of the players and followers of Pearl River basketball, but this year was not to be. Consistant play of Johnny Fells and Barry Arcement kept the Cats close throughout the first half and left the River in striking distance trailing only 54-44. However, an untimely virus overcame starter, Renee Brown, and the freshman star sat out the majority of second half. This with Non-existent defense , said Holmes, and an owesome offensive attack on part of the Bulldogs, led to the Pearl River express running out of gas, falling 106-80. Again, as most of the year dictated, Fells paced the Wildcats with 26 points, Landry Cage and John Williams each tossed in 14, Arcement netted 13, and Brown collected nine in his short tenure. Manager-players, John Bailey and Randy Lott, each hit a field goal to round out the Wildcats ' scoring. With the ned of the 1980-81 season and its frustrations, Coach Holmes can hopefully pack up all the turmoils faced by the squad and lock them up forever. In years to come, this team will not be remembered for its 7-20 record, but for the players who stuck it out, The Magnificient Five plus Two . During the 1980-81 school year, only one varsity squad on the Pearl River campus made the South Divi- sion finals and competed for the overall State Championship. The Lady Wildcats are sole possessors of any post- season victories, and also qualified for the right to en- ter national competition. The first week of March, the Lady Cats journey to Memphis, Tennessee, to enter the Region Seven Tour- nament. The Cats were Mississippi ' s third-seeded team and own a fine 17-8 record. Under Coach Billy Holmes, Pearl River completely turned around a program in a years time. Coming from a 6-19 record of a year ago, Holmes launched his Cats into state-wide prominence. Sophomores Nita Boudreaux, Faith Harrell, Lisa Douglas, Lawana Johnson, Leslie Williamson, and Bren- da Young are to be commended for not giving up after such a horrendous start their first year. They have defi- nitely proved to be the leaders of this season ' s team. Newcomers to the ' 80-81 edition of the Lady Cats were Shelly Dedeaux, Glenda Gardner, Tedora Hookfin, Rosemary Lofton, and Jennifer Ramshur. These fresh- men have blended well into the River style of basket- ball. Also receiving praise should be manager-trainer, Ka- ren Patch. Her hard work and dedication to the health of the Lady Cats during the long, grueling schedule, kept Pearl River with the winning edge. The students and community showed their apprecia- tion for a successful ledger during the South Division Tournament contests, held on campus. Large crowds added enthusiasm and excitement, helping the Cats to come out on top. i 16 Lady ' Cats win GETTING ROSES AT THE SOUTH DIVISION TOURNAMENT 140 PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC PRC LEDGER LSUA MERIDIAN EAST MISSISSIPPI PERK JONES SOUTHWEST PERK EAST CENTRAL HINDS MERIDIAN JONES UTICA LSUA SOUTHWEST CO-LIN UTICA JONES PERK HINDS EAST CENTRAL CO LIN CO LIN HINDS JONES NORTHWEST 55 54 82 70 91 68 68 82 68 68 80 61 59 61 60 69 83 45 63 54 53 65 70 84 LEFT TO RICHT-Leslie Williamson, Clenda Gardner, Lisa Douglas, Brenda Young, Faith Harrell PRC Girls entered regionals At Memphis rated No. 3 from Mississippi Lady Cats Lose South Crown to Jones Coach Holmes Nita Boudreaux at Jones The Season ended at Memphis .... after the Wildcat had been completed. Practice was often held in the new gym, also being shared by the base- ball and golf teams who were seeking refuge from the driving rains. Be- sides the lack of running simulation, spring fever claimed a few victims from practice, as well as bouts of illness. Pearl River came in last in most meets, but as always, there was a few standouts. Sonny Creagh placed 3rd in discus at the South Division Meet at Perkinston JuCo, and Jerry Phillips claimed a 5th place finish in the discus also.
